Wilson Bar USFS ID - ID76 - Approach and Landing ( Idaho backountry ) HD

Approach and Landing at Wilson Bar, ID - ID76 - airstrip in the Idaho backcountry with my Super Stinson 108-2.
Wilson Bar is a wonderful short airstrip right off the Salmon River. Land down-stream (Rwy 24) and takeoff upstream (Rwy 06). Also, be sure not to mistake this for Mackay Bar as they are only 2 miles apart. Hazards include; no go around, small rocks on Rwy 06 end, trees, rising terrain, density altitude, and canyon / mountain weather. Please proceed with caution and make sure the weather is on your side. Also, make sure your piloting skills are top notch prior to landing.

I think this is your best video so far! First time I saw someone fly that far along the river on the approach. It seems most drop in later and hang to the right side of the valley until the cross the river and line up for final. Your wing strut mount gives a much better perspective of the approach. Thanks!

Flew into that strip about 17 years ago with my folks in the Cessna 180. Would have been great to have video of the approach in person, thanks for sharing this!

@TailwheelForrest This is defiantly a non standard approach that leaves few options if a engine mishap were to happen. But conditions were ideal and I figured I'd have a little fun while having a little fun. :)

I could do that if I was that good of a pilot, lived in that amazing area all my life as opposed to this flatland, wasn't too scared, knew the land and weather that well, had that good of an airlplane, and a few other factors. But other than all those factors I could do that :)

Two outbound aircraft on your way in! I understand how pilots manage traffic at uncontrolled fields but I would imagine you don’t have consistent radio coverage in these canyons. How do you know someone isn’t gonna be barreling down the strip when you turn to very short final?

1) you can see them, 2) by the time you're that close and making pattern calls, the radio should work just fine.
