One of the great R&B soul singers in the 60's-70's. He had a lot of hits such as "In The Midnight Hour", "634-5789 (Soulsville, U.S.A.)", "Land Of 1000 Dances", "Funky Broadway", "Engine No. 9", "Don't Knock My Love" etc.

This is one of the great historical songs that was recorded in a very historical place, muscle Shoals. It was a little studio in southern Alabama that just had a different sound not only from the actual recording properties, although that was one part of it, but they also had a group of studio musicians that were called the swamp men who played on most of the records that were recorded there. If you ever listen to the song, sweet home, Alabama, you might remember a line in that song that says “ in muscle Shoals, they have the swamp man”. They introduced some very significant songs from new artist that were unheard of at the time, but as other well-known musicians started hearing the records that were coming out of the studio they were wanting to do some recording down there themselves as many of them did. There was a sound that you got out of that studio that you could not replicate anywhere else. Paul Simon once called the studio and told them he wanted to come down there and record a few songs on his album with those black musicians you have in your studio. He was told that they would love to have him come down and record, however, the musicians are not black lol Aretha Franklin, the queen of soul herself was launched from the records she made in that studio before she recorded at muscle Shoals. She was having minimal success. Etta James also had a second career after recording at muscle Shoals coming off of quite a few years of time off. What is this song she recorded there was Tell Mama”. Muscle Shoals is a remarkable place with a remarkable story that I only initially learned about myself from watching a documentary on Netflix, which was very very good

I had just learned Mr. Pickett had died on a Saturday shortly before the start of a radio show I did at a local college radio station, and, off the cuff, dedicated half of the show to him. Love his music going back to The Falcons, and I identified with the man and his struggles with substances. Thanks for the upload.

Recorded in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, backed by the funkiest bunch of white country boys this side of Nowheresville, the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, also known as The Swampers. They were an absolute R&B machine. That's also them behind Aretha on "Respect," for instance, among many, MANY more. This particular song is such a classic, it has been part of a joke among bar band musicians for decades: the three songs a bar band never wants to be asked to play again as long as they live are "Mustang Sally," "Margaritaville," and "Brown Eyed Girl."

I may have said this before, but when you listen to Wilson Pickett it makes you realize why Steven Tyler decided he wanted to be a singer. I feel like Steven Tyler Drew alot of influence from Wilson Pickett. I also saw an interview with Steve Tyler on joe Rogan podcast saying on that first album his voice was so different because he just wanted to sound like he was black. He loved those Soulful voices. Kind of like Elvis. But I've always heardd a lot of Wilson Pickett in Steven Tyler. Great tune and great singer

Still waiting to see a Clarence Carter reaction. Either Snatchin it Back or Strokin. The first song was done in Muscle Shoals in 1968, and is my favorite song of his. Strokin was done in the 80's somewhere else, but is probably the song that he is remembered the most for. I still say that BJ will eat it up and have fun while Asia blushes the entire song. Lol

I never danced, unless it was a slow song back in the day. With one exception. This song. I didn't know he did Land of a 1000 dances too. That's funny because my parent had a record player in the hallway that anyone could use. We had the single Land of a 1000 dances and as a kneehigh to a grasshopper kid I'd dance up and down the hall to that one too.

1964 is both when it was first introduced and first went into production in the spring of that year. The 1965 mustang went into production in Oct. 1964.
