Great video I learned a lot! Sometimes I start over explaining and talking about all the technicalities, when I know a customer usually just wants to know why it’s better than a wax, how it works in simple terms, the price, and why they should go with you. Thank you!

I think my questions would be more like “how often do you wash your car ? How do you wash your car? Do you polish your car yourself? Do you keep up on scratch removal? I think most people would benefit from a polish , sealant and wax stack

@@as680783 same. I used to do high end headphone sales $500+ units and I see it like selling a coating. They don’t need it but you want them to have it. Luke, you point out what the guy should have focused on first but you never say what they are to do with that information. That is, you do not point out why you need that information and then what kind of reply various answers to that would generate from you. As a former salesman, it seems to me that the guy was focusing on the benefits without laying the groundwork for why a ceramic coating is the way to go. I'm not knocking your points only that you did not explain why the things you think he should have asked were important to ask and then what those answers would lend you to add to the presentation.

i charge 550$ coupes/sedans or 650$ for trucks. that includes a full wash, claybar treatment , one step paint correction (polish) and 2-5 year ceramic coating. customers love that price point. it takes around 6 hours depending on what your working on, not all are 1250 hes at a shop with high overhead. call some mobile detailers ernesto and get some qoutes your gonna pay 10X more for a paint job than a coating

You say he should ask you if you know anyone who has ceramic coating but you told him before he said anything that you did know friends who have it. And if that's to expensive for you you need to go through a backyard detailer lol that's what I would have told you.The detailer handled it fine because he obviously does high end detailing and he's not going to give you a cheaper version because that's not what he does or is about. $1200 is going to include paint correction and he explains that. If you rang Sandro from car craft auto detailing in Australia he would tell you to go somewhere else because he knows you aren't going to pay him for the kind of work he does. He will tell you straight up he doesn't come cheap and if you call him like you just did he will say my service isn't for you. The detailer you call handled it fine.You asked him about ceramic coating and he answered you.

I agree he did a great job. The point of the video is not to criticize him, he clearly knew exactly what he was talking about. The goal of the video is to show how to communicate to someone who needs to be sold on a ceramic rather than someone who already knows what they are and what they want
@OZIPUG1970

@@wilsonautodetailing I understand that but you did say you had "Friends" that had it done so he was probably thinking why didn't you ask them how much,what's involved, what does it do for the car. And also people can do easy research online these days before ringing anyone.He may have confused a normal customer with all that information but you did ask him and he told you lol. Really what he should have done was put you in contact with someone else who does cheaper coatings know all to well that you were not prepared to go for a high end product.

@@sneakynun A high end detailer hasn't got time for people looking for a cheap service.You do not understand what a high detailing is.Brush up on your research buddy.I do detailing as a hobby and my customers know what I do and how long it takes.When I do a full car detail and coating it takes 30 to 50 hours depending on the paint correction.If someone whinges about the price I don't even bother because I'm not into it for the money I do it because I love what I do and my customers love what I do. Did you even listen to this call? That detailer he called would have been rolling his eyes knowing all to well he was being a cheap goose and was never going to pay for a professional job.Who rings up a high end detailer without doing research lol.I suggests you watch Sandr from car craft auto detailing in Australia and watch his videos.He says up front he doesn't come cheap and if anyone is looking for a quick job he will suggest someone else.His skills are unmatched.

@@OZIPUG1970 you completely missed what I was saying. There are people that actually run a business and you can’t be rude to someone because they are being cheap. You can still deliver quality within someone’s budget. Instead of being rude and telling someone to go to a cheaper person ask what his budget was. If Luke’s budget was $700 I would tell him for that I can run a quick polish and coat. It’s a 2020 and Luke wasn’t looking for defect removal but more so protection and shine. You don’t always have to brush people off because they don’t have the budget you charge. For $700 you are getting the quality of the ceramic coating install which is all Luke was after. And it being a newer coupe it shouldn’t take more than 5 hours. Since you are delivering quality and you know he changes vehicles every 2-3 years that’s a repeat high ticket client. Stop contributing to the detailing industry being ran off their egos

That was more of a conversation with a buddy. He didn't sound like he was trying to sell you a coating at all. Definitely good information and a smart guy, but terrible explanation to a random customer who has no idea what you're talking about 95% of the time. Always ask questions about the vehicle first, get info on what exactly they are looking for. Explain the benefits, not the chemistry behind it.
