Thanks for posting this. Incredible musicians. You really see their personalities. Enjoyed that Gary Willis ventured into the bass register of his instrument for his later solos and the Victor put such a premium on laying down a rhythm throughout otherwise we might have forgotten this was a bass summit! I see here all of them did not give their best, each of them. Reason why is they are great to let breath the playable and musical energy in order to flow. It was a pleasure anyway to listen to..... Despite I see opinions here about who was the "dominant" or the "best" I do not think there was any as such. They all super super bass players. I can say some is more close to my taste and feeling. Music is not about rank.... when you see these guys expressing their unquestionable and natural talent.

stage left seem like they got it. Doug's jam and Gwiz and Willis knew what to do with it. Willis masters the traditional approach with jazz and r&b stuff, Gwiz is the medium between Gary an Doug - fx on then off. the shortening of time between solos was nice- had to be on their toes. Victor told John "it's in F" - gotta hand it to Doug for challenging them to find stuff not in E Dorian- even if you don't dig his outside the box style. ♫ ♥

@Toby Baker yes he didn't slap or play metal not that metal makes a bassist a good player , the point is there are not many masters of their given instrument but Jaco was a master of the Bass , he's up there with Bach , Mozart and Charlie parker.
@bigwave18274 жыл бұрын
Maybe Jaco would save Willis and Wooten ... The first because as a touch, approach, technique and sound he is the only one that reminds me of it .. The second, beyond the great slap technique, for the energy, the imagination and the musicality (these aspects also remind me of Jaco). Obviously it is my personal opinion.

I think Gary takes it. Amazing how he manages to imply the melody of the song with all of his ripping. Was very technical but he stuck to the music. Victor is just moving to watch. He moves to what he is playing. He plays with emotion. Steve was just a bad a#s. He was holding back the whole time and giving others a chance. But when he did rip it up he almost stole the show but stopped too soon. He was the most melodic though. There was a guitar player in the jam and that was Doug. Now he stole the show for sure. Good showmanship for the arena. John was jazzing it up heavily, playing out mostly. I can almost hear Chick's music. If Gary stuck to the music , John walked out the door. And there is a keyboard player in the group, Janek. Had his intense moments. But the whole time I was waiting for him to switch off the pedal. He did and that was his shining moment. All very good players. All different. Great jam. Now if they could just get Jeff B. in there somehow.
