I love the 1914 scenario because it forces you to use what you have. If you start in 1933 for example you can just build up industry and be insanely OP by when the war happens, it's not even fun And sadly, the 1939 and 1941 scenarios are not well done, at least i didn't like playing them. So the only place where you can actually have a difficult combat experience in hoi2 is in the 1914 scenario

1936 remains my favorite scenario. I think of it as the "main game," while the other start dates give a completely different game experience.

Hey! In settings you can turn Nato counters on, or if you right (or left, depending on mouse configuration) click on the date where it says year-month-day-time in game and youll get the option to use counters!
