Win Butler Talks About His Grandfather Alvino Rey

I met Mr. Rey when I was 12 and just learning guitar. He was performing at an open air event in L.A. we sat and talked for about 20 minutes. He was amazing but kind and generous with his time. I've always been a fan and grateful I got to spend a little time with him.

Don't forget that Alvino was Ira Ironstrings playing banjo on those late 50's and early 60's Warner Brothers LP's.

He used only a thumbpick to play steel. Interesting.
