I started skating about 1986 just for fun but I grew up with an abusive father and it became my only only escape mentally. It quickly became the center point of my whole life. It was so much fun and cathartic. I've never not had a skateboard in my life since then. Now I'll be 48 in August and I still feel the need to skate like I need to breathe. I still skate every Sunday with my best buds. It's still the greatest feeling!! And I am better than I've ever been in my life. Thank you Skateboarding!! You are my Life!!

I started skating when I was about 5. It was the first thing my dad ever taught me. He told me all about his love for skull skates. I only started skating seriously about 2 years ago when he passed. His death urged me to get better, and more creative with my skateboarding. I’m 17 years old now and find endless inspiration from skateboarders like Mark Gonzales, Neil Blender, and Ed Templeton.

I started skating because my mother taught me, I've been skating since I was 7 years old, but I really got into it at 14 watching Chris Cole, Steve Cab, Stu Graham, Willis Kimbel and Darren Navarrete. I stopped skating for more than 5 years I stopped skating due to a broken ankle, but I decided to go back to skating because it is what I like to do the most in the world, it is also where I have made the best friends I could ask for, They are also my second family, and skating is what I like to do the most since I got on a board 🔥🛹🛹🔥🔥🔥🔥

I started skating two years ago, I got recently diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, which has a perk of being incredibly impulsive-I randomly bought a board having never skated in my life, or had any desire to skate...now I had a board, I guessed I may as well give it a try instead of sending it back. I've never looked back, it's been the best thing I have ever done. Being a beginner in your late twenties is tricky, but I've gained so much life lessons, and always get back up and try whatever it is I'm trying. Two years later, you can find me cruising a bowl, I love the feeling of carving it's so freeing. Amber (from the UK)

I started skating around 8 years old, I would ride my dad's old 60s board with clay wheels, then my uncles 80s pig board with urethane wheels, and then my first actual popsicle board was a ATM green veneer deck and I loved it. By middle school I was obsessed with everything skateboarding lol. with the help and direction of a great shop class teacher I started a skateboard club in the woodshop classroom after school, we were sent blank Powell decks (thanks to Mike Vallely) to cut out, drill, shape and sand, paint. Mike V was super excited that we wanted to do this and he did so much to help get us blank Powell decks.( at the time it was extremely difficult to get 30 uncut blank decks) After everyone heard we actually got the boards this skate club was filled with kids building their own board. It was so successful the local newspaper came to interview me and take photos to put in the front page wearing a Zero skateboards skull tshirt and holding a board i made. So many people hated that 😂 some school teachers wanted us to be the punks and losers they called us on a daily basis but that wasn't the case and were proud to have the recognition as skateboarders not criminals. Mike Vallely sent me personal letters, a autographed copy of his poem book "Dusk like fire" and his CD "Mike V and the Rats" I will never forget that time I'm my life, and I will always be grateful to my Teacher who without him none of this would have been possible. ⚡️Stand Strong ⚡️

It was in 1995 i started to skate the 1st time with oldschool shape deck. Cheap skate from a book store sport department. Broke the back truck when trying to go up the sidewalk since it was made of plastic. Stopped for a while until my friend bought a good quality board and we skated together so i borrowed his skateboard. Skate until early 2000s and i focused with my punk rock band. Now in my 40s i started to skate again since 3 years ago. I want to feel the exciment on the board and push myself to commit. Im using the oldschool deck shape to bring back the good old memorries. Keeping me young inside. Punk rock and skateboarding 🔥

Damn, this video is inspiring! I know I'm too late for the giveaway but I just wanted to say how much I relate to your story. I loved skateboarding since I was 11. I skated everyday until I tore my ACL skating a sketchy 9 stair when I was 18. I never fully recovered from it and partying took over from there. I drank away my 20's and gained around 80 pounds. I finally got sober right before my 31st birthday and it was the best decision I've ever made. Now I'm 32 and trying to lose weight and get back into skating more. Thanks for sharing a little about yourself and congrats on 1.5K subscribers. 🤙🏼

I'll be turning 48 in August so I've lived skateboarding for a very long time. I started out on the executioner like so many others.. my grandmother was in the hospital for heart surgery so we were down in Charlottesville.. sadly she didn't make it so it was a rough ride home. My parents knew I was bummed so we stopped at a hunting/ fishing/bike shop that had skateboards.i remember scanning the wall not really focusing then all of a sudden I saw that Schmitt stix John Lucero x1.. the eyes staring from behind the bars and I knew that was the one. I've been a fan and supporter of everything John Lucero has done since that day even getting the never forget elephant. Once a skater always a skater even if I don't get to do it as much or as good as I'd like anymore lol

I used to butt bomb my brother's sick fluro green and pink board in the 80s as a tiny kid. But I got into skateboarding at 12 years old in the mid 90s. I was the only girl around skating and had the crap bullied out of me for it, strangely by an older teenage girl. I stopped so I could fly under the radar. It worked. In my late 30s and thanks to lockdown KZbin binging a random fingerboard video was suggested. I thought it was cute but it triggered my interest in what skating is like today. Saw lots of late 30s - 50s skaters ripping on these old skool boards in. I was hooked. Got a dirt cheap Globe Goodstock complete and put OJ Mini Super Juice wheels on it to relearn the basics. I struggle with severe depression and now skating means so much to me and has been so helpful. The thing I love most about skating is you've got no choice but to smile and be right there in the moment the whole time. And I love that there are so many like minded people out there who have gotten into or back into skating later in life using it to help themselves through crap, to challenge themselves and to have fun! PS I love the music in your vids.
