They're in such a weird spot, I was going to talk about it in the video but decided it didn't fit. Like if they get buffed, now you have a super strong slayer weapon with a free mobile ink wall... On the other hand as they are now it's just a mobile ink wall that rarely works.

Tenta Brella is actually one of the few weapons that are good at stalling 1v4, its main priority is to stall fights, take up space, make the opponent panic special and distract opponents away from objective. Brellas are unique for a skirmisher weapon since they mostly rely on the shield for survivability rather than their mobility which is what inkbrush and tetras are. Also launching shield with splatbrella just alerts your opponent that your defenseless since it loses half of its unique properties for a 2 shot weapon but still keeps the downside of it having inconsistent damage compared to others. It should only be done if you know that you will get splatted when you put your shield down and are near cover. Other than that the only other situation is getting a bit more points in rainmaker but is still situational because of positioning and shield speed.

Ever since I bought Splatoon 2 in 2019 I've wanted to be a brella main, but it was so massively overshadowed by dualies it was hard to find an extensive guide that wasn't outdated. I'm glad I'm in the community at launch so I can grow and improve with the game. Also correct me if I'm wrong but don't bombs explode on contact with the brella shield in Splat 3? I know they did in 2 but I can't seem to find it mentioned anywhere in the vid? Again I could be wrong sorry
@Phonochirp2 жыл бұрын
You know, I should have said that, you're 100% right... I kinda alluded to it by saying you shouldn't stay right behind the brella all the time, but didn't actually say that was the reason why. Thanks for the addition/correction!

I love how all the brellas do support differently Undercover paints and controls space through use of inkmines and its shield to paint frontlines Splat is moreso about assists with 80 damage shots that can combo off of anything, as well as solid stalling capabilities to call in backup, and a strong displacement special Tenta is a heavy tank with its massive high HP shield and ink vac

As someone who used it during B rank and now in A- Your given a proper role... the only issue with said role is that it relies on your team to take advantage of it especially with Tenta Brella. That kit is focused on area denial and stalling the enemy. You keep the team's pressure up by placing beacons within the objective but out of direct sight. HOWEVER: This is a weapon where you need to buy a Lan adaptor for the switch. It sucks but if you're dead set on using it as a main stay, buy one to reduce the amount of times you die with your shield out. It'll still happen sadly so make it a habit to shoot behind a wall then stroll out of cover with the shield deployed. The gun itself is powerful but it slow rate of fire makes it more better at self-defense and protecting others. Its not like you can't go on the offensive but you have to use that shield and be unpredictable when you swim in Ink to make up for the slow fire rate. WALLS are also your friend since it effectively means you only need to guard one side instead of both left and right. Lastly... your a lonely support. You will be in games where no one will take those beacons except you or run off or leave your Ink vac's range and get splatted. At the very least, If no one wants to support you. you can be cheeky and place a sneak beacon by the enemy backlines and it will never be found in 8/10 games. No one checks maps nor even know what a beacon does in most case (Not that I recommend doing this unless the opportunity presents itself ). Honestly I wish there were more medals for taking the most damage or beacons counted towards super jump target since its hard to get metals on this during a series. Its hard weapon to use and only really for those who are willing to put up with its flaws despite how often they come up.

i love using the splat brella even tho its "bad", i usually use it on splat zomes or turf war cause with the standard fire, sprinkler and tri strike it has quite good ink coverage. also, while its hard you CAN actually use it as a slayer weapon. for example if you get really close to someone you can use a singular shot and hold the brella open, which will hit and kill the enemy (the normal shot does 81 dmg max and the shield does 30, so a kill/splat!)
@Phonochirp2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's still a very fun weapon! It's not like it's so bad you're guaranteed a loss... Though the reason I didn't mention the 1 hit melee splat is because if you're doing that, may as well use a roller lol

Brellas are interesting due to the fact that they are all what I'd consider support but all of them handle it very differently while also unfortunately being hindered by some problems. For the Splat Brella you're a midline support, you're very good at protecting objectives and holding ground, or at least you would be if the netcode was actually good in this game... The Undercover brella is more frontline support and it's gimmick of regening it's shield when getting an assist makes it good for acting as a distraction while your slayers go for a flank, however it's never been a strong weapon in general despite being the one brella not completely made worthless by the bad netcode and it also has a pretty poor kit since ink mine doesn't really synergize with being a frontline distraction and Reefslider is too aggressive and is better for flanking than frontal assaults. The tenta brella is also frontline support but instead of being a distraction you just launch a shield at your opponents to break the line and clear a path for front and midline fighters to go in for the kill, but you also have the strongest attack meaning you can also be the aggressor in some team comps.

great video. i've been maining brellas since they came out. i normally never release my shield playing splat brella. i find that you rarely win a fight without being able to flare your shield, so releasing it would waste a few seconds of combat. i love playing tenta in splatoon 3. if the shield worked i think it'd be one of the best weapons in the game
@Phonochirp2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's definitely better for the standard Brella to stay attached, only issue is it so rarely works thanks to the net code.... Hopefully it's remedied in an upcoming patch
@adaraif99722 жыл бұрын
I kinda disagree with launching the shield on regular brella being a good move in ranked, it takes so long to recharge that you're basically left completely useless to your team since its so easy to splat you without it. I'd say its better for when you need to fall back and leave a distraction to get away without getting splatted. (also, if they can't fix the netcode issues, the least they could do is make it a consistent two hit splat! That'd really increase its pressure and solidify it as a more viable main weapon.)
@Phonochirp2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I wouldn't entirely disagree, it's honestly hard to tell which is better thanks to how often it just doesn't work. I think if the net code got fixed, not launching would 100% be the better option

With dualies being big in the meta and having mained the sorella brella when it came out last game (had about 400k with it) I just wish the shield would actually work in this game! Sprinkler triple inkstrike is a rather bad kit with this weapon unfortunately so I don't have much hopes for it in the meta but I'll still pick it up. Tenta brella has a great kit and a good main weapon (if the shield actually worked) so I personally would suggest tenta brella. One thing though... you should be running much more than 2 subs of main saver 😅 in ranked I guess you could get away with that if you run LDE, but I would be running AT LEAST 12 ability points of main saver! Also, all 3 brellas have AMAZING ink coverage... I'm not quite sure why you disagreed there but make sure to use its painting abilities to the fullest! Anyway sorry to be so critical, this is a good guide, thanks for the well done video! Also, don't use undercover, it sucks
@Phonochirp2 жыл бұрын
Tenta is definitely the winner no doubt! For coverage I base it on contested areas. Against many weapons, by the time you've shot a second time, the coverage of your first has been taken back with time to spare, and you'll run out of ink long before the opponent. It's better then some, worse then many. Far from useless and you shouldn't just ignore trying to cover, but you'd probably be better off splatting THEN doing coverage.
@jermm21832 жыл бұрын
@@Phonochirp yes I agree that you shouldn't make your brella an aerospray for your team but rather play a sweeper/support hybrid. Yes your method of showing ink coverage is great on paper but if you look at a large scale of results after a game you will see that most brellas, when performed reasonably well, have a rather high amount of turf inked. That is because you don't dje much and are often in contested areas or holding a spot on the map. It has good ink coverage as you can quickly shoot the brella in enemy ink and get a solid 20 or so points but if you're a splash you wouldn't be able to do that. At least that's my thoughts from experience but I'm also no top 1000 god at this game.

Using lots of mines to create choke points and escape route traps have helped me win many many battles that an undercover has no business winning. Undercover with a combo of mines can be a 1-2 hit killing machine. There is an art to using it.

I picked up Brella in this game due to being bored as a Shooter main, and I'm horrified to find that I love the class and am actually decent at it. I wish the netcode was better, but I've had times where I've blocked some pretty heavy fire perfectly fine, and I feel like it always fails to work when I'm trying to "parry" a quick attack (Like Splatana) by reaction alone.

Is it just me or did they buff the Undercover Brella's shield HP in Splatoon 3? I remember it taking less shots from fast firing shooters like N-Zap or dualies to break the flimsy shield in Splatoon 2. Everytime I encountered an Undercover Brella while playing as an N-Zap, I'm never able to break it's shield anymore.

Surprisingly, not that I can tell. You can test with the copy machine, but it seems to take around 6 splattershot hits to break.
