I have a M1028A1 (M1031 with the service body replaced with a troop carrier bed) and that same winch. I really like the bolt on construction. I am going to make an angled mount plate that feeds into those shackle receiver tubes.

Good job. At 1:50 how does it attach to the frame again?. You say base of the clevis. Thanks.

sh839c If you have a CUCV you'll have what is called a clevis, which is essentially a metal box tube coming out of the frame with a large 1" hole to slide in a pin that holds in a D-Ring. Basically all I did was remove the D-Ring and slide on this assembly over it instead!

@@OdysseyOverland4x4 Just FYU those Drings are NOT tow rings like people thing, they are TIE DOWNS.... and frankly not strong at all. Many people have ripped them right off through truck frame... so this is really not a safe mod. What you need is a mount that bolts to the frame period.

that is a good set up but what if u have to dip down before u climb something wouldnt that get in the way like that

@@Ryankary666 Honestly, I have not really run into that issue. Back in the day especially when I would actually go wheeling with this thing, when I was concerned about the terrain, I would remove it (it has 2 pins that hold it in place) and toss it in the trunk, having it if I ever needed it. But since then, I have just left it on, and it has held up great.

Stinky Potatos and I 100% agree. My truck has been in the shop getting some paint touch ups and is about to go to a trans shop for a few days for a warranty claim (it's leaking heavily and doesn't go into gear sometimes, so that's really on them). I am hoping to be cranking out new vids very very soon! Also, I made some prototype parts that will be for sale in the future too, so don't worry, great stuff on the way ;) thanks for sticking with us!

Andrew Pieman I have had a few actually, all of them being getting other people out of mud... One of them being frame deep. No problems. The front clevis is rated at 20K pounds!

Those "shackles" are tie downs and they will pull right off the truck.... and snap off. Get a mount plate and do it correctly. The only reason those are on the truck are to tie it down during transport they are NOT tow shackles and using them like this is dangerous. In fact the mount plate you bought from HF can be trimmed down to mount prperly on the frame AND be hidden behind the bumper... instead of this dangerous nonsense.

i have the same setup on mine and i have a 14k winch and i do hard pulls with it and nothing has ever happened
