I was born & raised in Winchester & I remember when the pedestrian mall used to be Main Street. We lived on South Braddock Street, between Leicester & Monmouth Streets. I lived there from 1961, when I was born until 2014, when I moved to Roanoke, VA. In fact, I graduated from the James Wood on Amherst Street when it was a high school in 1980. I really miss Winchester! A great place to live & grow up!!

If you ever get a chance to come back, look at staying at the George Washington Hotel there in Old Town. It's great and within walking distance of all the goodness in Old Town.

There is a lot more to Winchester than the Walking Mall and the Patsy Cline house. Also, the road route that your GPS had you take did not really show you all the beautiful 1800s (and in some cases 1700s) residential architecture that exists in abundance nor let you see the beauty of some of the public buildings like Handley High School or the Public Library. Also, a trip to the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, George Washington's Office, and the 1840s courthouse Museum should not be missed for anyone interested in history (or art in the case of Shen Valley museum). Also, next time please try some local restaurants instead of a chain near the Apple Blossom Mall - there are literally dozens of reasonably-priced places to eat with fantastic food on the Old Town Walking Mall alone (that are not chains) and many other great non-chain options within a 10-minute drive of your hotel.

Good place to visit but don’t move here. The water is terrible, internet service and cable is the worst always having someone to find problem, never the same. The builders in the area are the worst, having to spend over $10,000 to fix or repair poor construction. The government inspectors have to be on the take, they approve things that have not been approved by the county. We have an improper sewer lateral connection that was approved for bonds to be released ( still not addressed after 5 years ) the list goes on and on.
