Every time i think Derick is cool he releases another video and I'm just in awe on how amazing this guy is.

The classic book The Jewel Cave Adventure has always been one of my favorite to read. But its a few decades out of date at this point. Is there already, or are there any plans to make, a Jewel Cave Adventure "Volume 2" or a Wind Cave Adventure book detailing the exploration of this cave in narrative form? I will happily spend money on any such thing that exists.

Cool video. Congratulations Hazel and Derek, Adam and Nick.

Hazel, I know it is not as spectacular as Sarah. But it looks to be a nice cave anyway.

Wow Derek! Your videos always make me feel the grit and muscle effort and exhaustion I experienced 50 years ago in Indiana. Thank you so much for what all you guys are doing. It's amazing. What a cave!

Thank you so much. I want to see much more in depth footage and explanations of the surveys. I'm absolutely fascinated by this cave system.

As always a great video.

Awesome stuff, glad that cavers are finally able to do some more caving. Soon, we may be able to finally continue survey in Oklahoma's longest cave. I think it's been closed first due to WNS & then Covid for over 9 years.

Pete Lindsley Thanks Derek! Another great video. Are backlights being taken with the Disto X2?
@DerekBristol2 жыл бұрын
Yes, we take back-sights. We're using two Disto-Xs.

Seeing video of Wind I always find it so striking how different it looks from Mammoth/Flint/Roppel or the Cumberland Plateau and it's shocking to see cavers in Tshirts which I assume is due to how dry the cave is since the average temp should be a little lower.
@DerekBristol2 жыл бұрын
That's right. Wind Cave temperature averages around 53F (slightly cooler than KY), but the physical effort needed to travel through the cave and the dry conditions mean that synthetic t-shirts are optimal.

Is the red rock sandstone (around 6:02)? Is it from the paleo karst?
@DerekBristol2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. There are two big paleofill dome collapse areas in this room.

I'm continuously in awe of all your videos. How exactly do you "follow" air flow?
@DerekBristol2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You can feel moving air on exposed skin. This new area has the strongest air movement any of us have experienced other than at one of the entrances. When you reach a junction you can tell which of the possible directions takes most of the airflow... that air is certainly heading towards more cave passage, and possibly the surface. That's usually the best way to go, even if the passage is smaller.

@@DerekBristol Wow! That is fascinating. Part of me thought the answer was going to be super technical, but it's awesome how much we can glean from our innate senses.

Continuing Resolution! How did you ever come up with that name?
@DerekBristol2 жыл бұрын
The exploration of this area is continuing, and it has taken resolve to push that far out to the edge of the cave through a very complex route. It has nothing to do with the fact that survey trips to NPS caves are frequently jeopardized by political games in Washington.
@leehskinner2 жыл бұрын
Yes, good luck in continuing with your explorations! Hope you will not encounter another Government Shutdown toward your Pure Intentions of finding new discoveries!
