From leehite.org/Chimes.htm A demonstration in answer to some of the questions regarding wind chime loudness and why the rich sound from a wind chime may not sound as rich at a distance. This can be useful to assist the appropriate note selection when selecting a set of wind chimes.

Thanks John, glad the information has been useful. When I began this project I had no idea how intriguing chimes could be and how much there was to learn. I am still learning :) Send me a picture when you finish, I would love to see what you come up with.

Thank you for sharing your research. Your wind chime web site is a wonderful plethora of information. And this video is a great reference for intonation from your different examples of metals and materials. I am looking forward to making my own wind chimes.

You good sir, are a credit to your people. :) I appreciate all the work you done to bring information to others in order to make the world a better place. I have to admit that my musical background is sorely lacking, and as such, some of your work is a bit beyond my current skill level. Is there a simple encapsulation of suggestions to make chimes that will sound as pleasant to my neighbors as they do when it's close to me?

Great video! Thank you for making and sharing this! Have you tried using a string bow with any of these? Would love to know/hear if that works to create a sustained tone, particularly with the deeper/lower tones.

Dear Lee I want to say thank you and send you a video for a set of 32 chromatic bells I make now. Are 3" steel bells. The longest is F3 about 170 cms and the shortest is C6 about 68 cms. How I do to send you the video ? Best regards from "Punta del Este" in Uruguay. Your work is an inspiration for all of us. Thanks you. Roberto "Tito" Faraut Garcia from Bateroz.

Hello master. I have a question. I go to create my 3 octaves chimes xylophone with 3" diameter chimes from F3 to F6. My questions. What chimes diameter 2" or 3" sound better ? What chimes diameter 2" or 3" sound louder to play in a big orchestra with drumset ? and what diameter sound with more "fundamental note" between 2" or 3" diameter ? Best regards Mr. Lee Hite. I go to read all your awesome website. Thank you very much. Prof. Tito Faraut García from Uruguay. 🙂🎶🌎🎶🙂🎹

Great, glad it was a help Art. BTW, by chance are you restoring a telegraphy office for the museum. I am slightly involved with the restoration of the rail station in Valparaiso, IN, where the largest telegraphy school in the western hemisphere existed. The Dodge Institute of Telegraphy. Just curious ??

Your need to start over from the beginning it is flawed. 1. The bell ringer is shaking the small chime sets at different rates. 2. The large chime sets and single chime tubes are being struck at different heights and force.

The steel cylinders sound better than the aluminum cylinders. So why are most wind chimes made from aluminum tubes instead of stainless steel?
@LeeHiteVideo
@LeeHiteVideo 5 жыл бұрын
The difference you hear between aluminum and steel is mostly do to the mass of the material. If the two tubes weighed the exactly the same the sound would be very similar. It is easier to accomplish a longer sustained time with steel because it is more dense than aluminum. Watched the first part of this video where I do a comparison among five different chimes and that may help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5eyk2t7ft1jas0

The best thing to do is go to the website and either use the plans for building or design your own using the tools on the site. leehite.org/Chimes.htm leehite.org/documents/DIY%20Wind%20Chime%20Sets%20by%20Lee%20Hite.pdf
