I've been curious for a while why horizontal axis wind turbines are so much more common place than vertical axis wind turbines? Is it really more efficient this way? It seems like you could build smaller turbines in the vertical style that would easier to maintenance and safer as well. I have read that vertical ones tend to be a bit slower, but with the fewer materials needed, less expert workers needed, more job safety, and less need for as large of machines you'd expect the cost over power production to be nearly balanced, maybe even tipping more into verticals favor since they can be used in more environments even urban like solar panels.

Drive around the country and see how many beautiful scenic areas have been destroyed by wind turbines. Talk to people where these machines have been installed about the strange and annoying noises they make. Find out how many birds are killed every day by wind turbines, especially large endangered birds like eagles. These things are an environmental disaster.
