Thank you! I was just boing to order a bigger wind turbine. I made one with nemibdimum magnets resined into a home fan and it was a wonderful supplement to 160 Watts of solar panels with hybrid charge controllers. We have high wind speeds in the Canzdian prairries. It'suninterrupted hundredx of kilometers except occasional brush and trees planted by homesteaders and some that survived enough to become small timber wooded areas so it comes from all directions, like you get too. The blades on fhe fan were a particle board wood product and I gave them a base coat of barn paint as a primer and several extra coats of all weather exterior paint to ensure they remained watertight as they were described in the manual. I used one inch stainless steel washers and added non slip washers that prevent bklts from unscrewing with movement like on motors of automobiles because fans already vibrate a bit indoors and this would be a lot faster. I used bolts a half inch longer to compenxate the extra tasteners and tightened them with a torque wrench, the one that clicks and makes tightening stronger. Neither the blades nor the fasteners could withstand the wind. They unscrewed and the areas around the connections broke outright and sometimes flew up to fifty feet away. I had to replace the blades several times. The wires couldn't withstand that much vibration either, so that during severe storms there was visible arcing like in the Tesla experiment. Most and even the biggest Watt producing wind turbines have plastic or maybe polyurethane reinforced hard plastic blades. I'm ordering one that sits horizontally and has curved blades with several reinforcements molded into each blade, but the connection is very narrow and I would have been really worried if I hadn't seen several of them in yards here in the town. A note about the tower is important too. It was installed on a 2" x 4" tripod tower reinforcec by 1x6 planks 11 foot tall and 8x8x8 ft. Even it, as heavy with several hundred pounds, it got blown over, and I had to anchor it with a rebar on each leg and in the middle. The battery and a generator were in rubber totes with ventilation holes fabricated in the handles. The wind bounced the rain and hail off the ground through the ventilation holes into the totes so I was glad I placed the waterproof covers on everything and elevate them off the bottom of the totes to help guardagainst condensation from hot and cold as dew. Yes, it was hit by lightning too, that you were worried about, but in the same thought as the lightning rod, better it even if my installation than my home. I finally cut the tower in half, one inside the other, and planted hops along the base thinking it could serve a dual purpose for gardening too, but learned some vines like hops are big, invasive, even of a wind turbine, and impossible to kill because they grow from rhizomes and these roots became the size of my wrist in a few years, in our gardening growing Zone 2 in Alberta, Canada, your Zone 3, an important lesson learned. In response to all of this, I bought an industrial fan for commercial use because it has all metal body and blades, and the heavy duty wiring was built to withstand continuous conditions. I haven't made it up with the magnets yet.I plan to wait to see if the commercial vertical axis horizontal wind turbine can survive here and if it produce at least a megawatt with the commercial fan as a secondary like mine did. If I get nervous, I'll try transferring the blades from the commercial fan I bought if I can find a way to do it. If not, I also plan to build a similar one as I had in the commercial one I bought, but it will have to be a separate power source because wind turbines produce AC Alternating Current and every AC Current current is a unique wavelength unlesss pure sine inverter is used that produces the same wavelength and equally can be grid tied. Another important note is for gardeners who would like to dual purpose or just cover up unsightly towers. Don't do it! I planted hops along the base of my tower and discovered they're a really big, invasive, and irritating vine, and they're impossible to kill once established. Someone gave a steel triangular tower for a TV antenna, satellite dish, and solar panel solar panels. This will require considerable installation indicated by the size of the cement footing a foot thick 44:38 under the entire base of the other ones in the town. I don't want to attempt another freestanding structure even taller than the one I had before I shortened the tower, so I plan to do that as soon as double pane windows for four panes, an exterior finish, trim, gutters, a rainwater catchment system, and irrigation lines are installed, and I have a better idea where to do it in a very small yard half the size of a normal town or city lot. Good luck in your projects.

Suffice to say, you need wind to power a wind turbine, you need sunshine to charge solar panels, and you need fuel to power a generator. If you have sun but no wind your good. If you have wind but no sun your good. If you have neither sun or wind but have a can of gasoline your good. Gasoline is loud and costs money and is least desirable, but it’s an insurance policy when nature doesn’t want to cooperate.

My buddy a trucker gave me two 12v inverters from wrecked highway trucks, and I built my mobile power cart in case of outage (steel shop cart, Princess Auto / Harbour Freight) The catalyst for me was ONE of the two inverters. a Xantrex 1800HF which is often used in marine applications and charges the battery bank by mains power and provides 1800 watts of AC. I bought one 13.8v 280Ah and want to add at least one more for my system. Also already added a Road Pro 3000 watt. Now I really need a second battery to be sure I have enough supply current to get full power out of those inverters. Next is an XP6000 and a move to 48v.

I really like the way you guys present installing a wind generator. Four years ago I called Eco Worthy and talked to a salesman. Instead of helping me he told me to educate myself on solar power and blew me off. I took his advice and now have a 40 panel system with 10 lithium iron phosphate batteries. I bought all my components from Eco Worthy. They have great products in spite of their crappy customer service. I mounted one 400 watt wind generator. I mounted it about 25 feet high which wasn't high enough. In my opinion it didn't produce enough power to justify the effort to mount and maintain it. When the wind was really heavy I had to mount 4 dump resistors, like the one you have, in paralell and they got too hot to touch. Don't forget to insulate between them and the wall. Your solar set up looks great. Hope you have better luck with your wind generator. I subscribed and liked the video.

Im also doing solar and wind. We don't get much sun in Michigan during the winter, so the wind power will be awesome added to the system. I am slowly piecing the system together. As in I don't have enough to outright purchase everything all at once. I have the wind turbine sitting here waiting for the charge unit, and one battery. I have 400 watt solar total in panels, but, none of it is hooked up as of yet considering the batteries are the most expensive portion considering how many you need. I also have a parent living with me on air, so we can't have the electricity go out without a big enough system to at least charge her portable so it all works together. This video was extremely helpful to me . I haven't set up the turbine yet because I didn't know what I was in for . Now I do. Thanks for showing me I will need someone with welding skills to help! This was good to watch. I got into wind about 15 years ago, built a few small scale turbines running lead acid batteries, long before lithium was a thing. 24 volt systems are good but 12 volt systems are better, longer current draw, just depends on your needs. Sucks about the flange and you having to weld it, some engineer somewhere kinda dropped the ball. From what i saw, the turbines flange looks about the same size as a boiler flange and they come threaded, the holes might line up or you may have to drill new ones but at least they are threaded for the hard pipe. My last setup ran the lights in the shop thru teo batteries and it worked great with auto furling to keep the speed constant but i got a letter from my municipality telling me i had to take it down, only 18 feet tall. Ive done some work with vertical turbines, not as efficient but less obtrusive. I'm getting into solar and plan to mount panels to a 50 degree south facing roof in the spring. Anyhow, i like what i see so far so i dont mind spending a little time checking out some of your other stuff. Off grid and self reliant - thats the way to go these days. If you havent done it yet, toss my name in the hat for your draw, thanks.

When it wasn’t spinning I wondered if you had it in break. I think if the leads are shorted together it can cause the wind mill to stop spinning. Don’t quote me on this. Here in north Texas we get good wind but I would have to raise it above the trees to capitalize on it. I still may try wind one day. All the best from north Texas.

Off Grid with Jay and Jen is awesome, I've been wanting one of these for some time, have a few solar panels, but don't work when no sun, and it seems here in Wisconsin that's becoming more often.

Off grid with Jay and Jen is awesome and I want an Eco Worthy Battery. I'm in Ca. And had my power cut bt Southern California Edison for the 3rd day in a row because they say our wind out here can knock down trees and creat forest fires, which up by Los Angles is actually happening. So I need something to keep at least one electric blanket on cuz it's 37°at night and to keep my fridge cold so my food doesn't spoil. Loved the video by the way. Learned some stuff too. Thanks. 😊
