The back and forth searching is caused by turbulence from surrounding objects. If it were about 40' above everything within 400' the panning would essentially disappear and the output would be more steady and increase several fold.

Thats correct, this unit needs another 30ft taller mast being so close to the house, even if the house is behind the turbine, the turbulence starts to form way upfront of the turbine.

Turbine working well!. Average power counts. The cubing effect of power v wind speed means that any turbine rated at 1500w will typically give a few hundred watts in average winds. So no disappointment there (in my opinion). Great video!

Further to my comments back in summer, I wonder what size and length of cable you are using between the turbine and controller. The reason I ask is that I swopped out my 50m of 6mm 2 3-core for 16mm 3-core and I am surprised at the improvement in output. The improvement was obvious even at lower speeds. Probably 25%-40% more power. Over the last few quite windy weeks up here in NE Scotland (excluding Babet! - shut turbine down for that ! ).. I've seen peaks of 1200watts, probably in gusts of 25-35mph but average power is well up. I had a particularly good weekend ( last weekend just gone ) where the turbine generated 8kwh over the weeken off which about 4kwh was dumped ( maybe I need to buy more batteries ). Did far better than my solar systems which generated only 2kwh over the weekend. It was really grey and miserable. ( 3.8kw on grid and 5kw off grid ).

come up with an idea to straight out the charge curve, ad more smaller wind turbines 30+ meters apart, I've done the same brought big i2000 i700 and a 300w, but now wish I'd of brought 3xi700 in a triangle for a straighter charge curve, thanks Henry

Very good suggestion, thank you Henry. Have been considering adding another smaller turbine that's a little easier to access and maintain. Could I ask, do you have yours on seperate control units or linked through a single controller? Thanks.

All are on their own controllers, but the 700w and 300w are 12v on a 300w dump load to a 48v seplos kit and 2000w controller dump load will be a sand battery produce hot water before entering a gas boiler, too reduce gas consumption and another sand battery in the shed before the water turns to stem, so goiǹg to control the hot water sand battery temperature then the gas will take it to 70dg, a lot of work ahead, got the 700w up and the 300w is going to be tied to a conifer, making the 2000w it's own tower scafold to winch too

@@HenryOwens-py3ur very cool! Lots of work ahead indeed. Sounds like it'll be great when it's all together. Just be careful of over speed in storms. Make sure you keep a brake switch in there somewhere.

Thank you, concreting in the next few weeks, still got £200 of scaffold clips, £300 of tubes, coming from 300w in a tree, burnt out motors slip rings snapped blade and now going to produce heat, it might not be enough, but their will be some. I avoid breaking, it burns cable in motors and the slip ring, dump load stops that, the only thing I'm not sure is that I think the dump load should be smaller or bigger than the slip ring,
@HenryOwens-py3ur
@HenryOwens-py3ur 6 ай бұрын
Imagine the slip ring being the fuse, the weakest link, breaking will burn it out so dump loads take away the power but if it's to big to power the slip ring will eventually burn out but I'll f it's below the turbines rating and slip ring, it's gonna get hot, real hot

Hello, can you please help me. I have bought an Instabreeze 2kw 48v and I have a chinese Hybrid Controller 2kw 48v but it seems that it doesn't charge at all. When i connect only two wires it starts spinning and It shows that is charging but when i connect all 3 it slows down (no brake) and only charge up to 50w when outside are strong winds, no matter how strong they are the turbine is not spinning fast enough. The brake works fine and I had winds where it came active. I've tried to disconnect two wires, it starts spinning very fast when i connect the other two it still charging good for another minute then it slows down again for no reason, no break active. Thank you in advance. I have struggling for 1 month and still can't fix the issue.

Hello, not sure how much help I can be but it sounds like the ac phases are crossed or shorted somewhere in you system. Perhaps start with all three phases disconnected and see does it spin up and generate normally. If it does, your problem is most likely at the controller end of things. If it doesn't then your problem is at the generator end and you'll have to take it down for further investigation.

Sorry, one more thing. When I leave it spin with the wires disconnected . While is spinning fast, a soon as I connect the third wire it does a flame and starts breaking and you can hear a 'brrrr' sound from it and slows down again. All this time brake doesn't come up
@ourkilkennyhomestead2006

@@xXJusTMichelxX from what you're saying it sounds like it could be the controller shorting a phase. It's an assumption based on it spinning freely when disconnected. Hope you get it sorted out 👍

Hi Stephen, thanks for checking out the vid. Well done getting off grid, it's a long road that's for sure. Funny enough we too weren't happy with they output from our DIY turbine and bought an istabreeze as result. I'd be glad to chat and share anything that might help with your turbine. My email address is on the main channel page, I might not respond immediately but will get back to you a soon as possible.

One of the last statements made by the gentleman was that you may need 5 of them just to keep the lights on. He is absolutely correct! I had two running, now currently looking at one on the ground in my kitchen area. I have an average wind speed of 17 mph (7.6 m/s). Their power curve says I should get about 450 watts at that speed. Did you notice that the meter in this video never showed anything close 500 watts? And the wind speed was about 26!!! (If you can’t read the meter, send the video to someone who can and they will tell you to run) Oh and if it breaks down, good luck. I was given an address in Europe which will cost over $1000 to ship.

Just a quick correction on the end of your statement. Replacement bearings are available at most engineering suppliers for 10-15 quid each and upgraded slip rings can be bought on amazon for under 60 quid. Depends on the nature of the failure of course.

Strange because toys for watts had one and it did a lot better than this. Wonder if it's a 3 blade vs 5 blade issue. He claims 3 blades is better because they can spin up better. He seems to think the other blades slows it down. Does that have a brake in the controller? And what is it set to? You could be killing it's power too quickly with a low brake rpm setting?
@ourkilkennyhomestead2006
@ourkilkennyhomestead2006 Жыл бұрын
Hello meglenger, i don't know for sure but I think it's due to the 5 blades instead of 3 as you suggest. We chose the 5 blades for better performance at low windspeeds, seems that the trade off is reduced rotation top speed. Figured that power more often worked better for us than more power less often. Didn't have any brake activation at the time of the vid, we're using istabreezes own control unit. If memory serves, toys for Watts has his own rectifier and control system set up, maybe that has something to do with it.

@@ourkilkennyhomestead2006 I can't wait to get mine up but I'm doing a lot of tower planning before I do anything. I was going to use a TV antenna tower with a tilt plate but I might just go with a center balanced swing tower. It's a boxed steel frame and you can lower it with a pull rope instead of a winch.... I requested a quote I'm thinking like 5k for a 40 foot tower if I had to guess. Shipping from Texas to Ohio included.

@@Meglenger exciting times ahead eh? Hope it goes smooth for you. When it comes to the mast a gin pole setup seems to be easiest to live with for most folks. We didn't have room for one so we used a counterweight instead. You probably know this already but to calculate how much the lift weight will be multiply the weight of mast and turbine by the distance from the pivot point and thatll give how much you're pulling. If I could make a recommendation it would be to use a winch with ratchet incase you need to stop mid lift for any reason. 👍

The reality of home wind...Can be made to work, but not as advertised. I would rather have solar only, than wind only. I see wind as a great supplement paired with a good photovoltaic system, but not as a stand alone system. If you try wind only, without solar, you need at least double or even triple the battery capacity.

You CAN'T go really much higher with this size and type of wind turbine due quite simply maths: P=½*ρ*A*V³*Cp. I already explained it how to estimate generated power - but unfortunately in Polish, if there will be demand I can make quick info in English as well - you result is really good for this size and type. I'm West Limerick/North Kerry border. To got more power you can try to slightly extend blades (at the hub!) - if you have workshop and material. Anyway, thank you for video, it's shows exactly how turbine of this size should work.

I've used household wind power for 8 years. To be frank, this performance is pathetic. The turbine isn't very high which could explain a lot but are you using a MPPT controller ? Have you tried just a simple bridge rectifier ? I'm thinking that a MPPT may not be quick enough to follow the gusts and that it may overload the turbine slowing it right down. We had used an old Jacobs and it never behaved like this. As well, I've watched other types of the older DC generators and I have never seen a performance like this one.
@ourkilkennyhomestead2006

Hello David, could I ask what turbine you are using? We decided to keep the turbine low as its on the hillside overlooking a valley, our height from the valley floor is approx 100-150 ft. The other reasons are for easy raising and lifting and to keep costs down. I'm planning on switching to a bridge rectifier as I'm changing the whole solar/wind system from 24v to 48v. With that said I would prefer a self managing control unit so constant monitoring isnt required but haven't chosen the way forward yet. Any recommendations greatly appreciated. Considering that this is a budget build (less than 2k) it performs OK but it could be better. You might be interested to know that we're rebuilding it at the moment with up-rated parts to improve performance. We have a few other vids on our channel about it that you might find interesting. Thanks, best wishes from Ireland.
