Man the wind feels great but is always a killer for the longer beard and even rolling around with the windows down can be brutal. Beard is always going crazy. Thanks for the video!

This issue strikes me to my core, especially as I keep growing longer. My best solutions are exactly the ones you mentioned, specifically combining them. Butter in beard and then some form of a braid or knot. This will help many!

I just went out and pet a pine cone for the first time today! Idk why though...😂 I had this happen the other day, it was significantly windier out than normal and I had just got done with my beard routine before stepping outside to go somewhere. At first I had the "Ahh wind in my beard" moment but then it blew up in my face and in my mouth and in my ears and I couldn't see and haha 😆 By the time I got back home my beard was in a messy tangle, I couldn't run my hand through it and it felt frizzled. I thought I just used some bad oil but it's one I've only had like 4 months so I didn't understand why. But now that I look back I think it was the crazy wind that made it feel this way! Awesome video explaining this situation, Dan!! 👊

Great video, topic & tips! The wind for me is like a beard fork creating monster. I have noticed that butter does help especially with getting the hairs back under control. Sometimes I’ll tie up the beard at the bottom to keep it together. Thank you Dan & keep it up!

Good video, but I hate the wind. The wind will dry and friz my beard, especially after all the time spent getting it smooth. The only problem with braiding or tying it in a knot is once it has been in that position for a bit that you can't undo it until you're done for the day. If you do, you'll have a twisted curly mess that is worse than when you woke! I agree with you that oil and butter help when it's up (knot/braid), but the wind is a drying destructive force. Thanks for the video on tying the knot. I use it often, and it's quick and easy and gets the beard out of the way when needed. Braids look better, but I fail miserable at it and am dependent on my wife's help for that. Keep up the good instructions and videos that are such a value. Dan C rocks the beard knowledge!

Great video Dan!! I know exactly what you're talking about. Back when I used to ride motorcycles, the wind whipped hair was awful. Now that I'm growing my beard back long, I have noticed a lot of knots if I don't take care of the beard everyday ( oil heat and butter). The days I have time and use my abalite heated brush it feels and looks so much better.

This past Labor Day I spent the day on the lake in a ski boat. Wind whipped to say the least! The day before I had stripped my beard and conditioned. My new routine after a stripping wash is to follow with a carrier blend oil high in bird oil. That night extra nourishment before bed by applying tallow butter. Labor Day I got up and straight to the lake. After a day on the boat I tried to straighten up my beard with my hands and I was totally SHOCKED at how soft my beard still was!! This was all by accident but will be my go to for anytime I’ll be out in windy.

I started braiding a few years ago when I ride the motorcycle. I keep it braided now about 75% of the time. There are times, though, that I really like the feel of a gentle breeze in my beard. It hasn't been until recently (since your post about the butter knot) that I occasionally butter before braiding. I've been experimenting with different types of braids the last few weeks. I might do a real loose full length braid or sometime I'll only braid the last 4 or 5 inches. That leaves the big full beard look and solves the forking problem. I always do a really tight full length braid from the chin down when I ride. I just like experimenting with different styles. Been trying different things with the stache here of late that only the wife and mirror have seen. He's a little harder to tame. Lol. Enjoyed as always 👍

If you think your beard feels bad with Michigan humidity and wind, you ought to live in West Texas, with 90+F and this week was 100F again. With that, we have the wind, which blows across the plains at a steady clip, and it is a convection oven. Then, add the dust and sometimes smoke. It takes butter in the morning and in the evening for my beard comb to slide through it. Otherwise it is just rough, and my beard loses its shine, and would easily get split ends. I have it long enough (8 or so inches), but I have just not felt like tying it up in public. So, for a few more weeks, until it is just Texas wind (without heat), it means doubling up on butter. Any other suggestions? Thanks. You are my beard hero, and I always look forward to your educated ideas. Keep on doing what you are doing.

I can't recall if I've experienced a wind wipped beard, but it's something I'll keep an eye out for. My biggest problem with the wind is the french fork, usually I'll put a hair tie or 2 in to keep it from forking. Although when the wind is blowing in the right direction and blows the beard all in one direction I love that feeling.

Very useful, thanks. I always enjoy the feel of wind in my beard, but I think it was only “wind-whipped” around when it was largely untrimmed near-yeard length. With lots of transparency, although I didn’t know the term then. I trimmed to the shape and length I’ve pretty much maintained since then, around 4 inches. I’m letting it creep toward 5 inches and hope I can get there without transparency. I think that’s too short to be wind-whipped, and the hair structure also prevents it. Some of my beard is straight, but most is curled or spiraled. As I understand your video, that keeps hairs from being separate and keeps fingers from running through.

Beard is about ~7inches long un-straightened but I’ve already started to have this issue. When my rear window is down in the truck along with the side windows my beard starts to tornado up into my face and I look a bit crazy. For now I have a mini boars brush to help sculpt it back in place. I’m sure when it starts happening more it’ll be annoying, but I can’t wait to have this issue!

I definitely struggle with this. My main activities lately have been running and golf. Runs are often group runs or races where we hang out after for a bit, and of course golf you're trying to be presentable for several hours. I get a little irritated that the beard just often gets to looking rough. I haven't been one to add butter, other than use at night for nourishment. For knots,i have plenty of length, but i'm always worried about leaving extra curls or shape behind after, guessing that isn't a real concern, as many do it, but it seems like it would shape the hair. My knots also typically fall out easily for some reason, even when it feels very secure when i put it in. I typically just let the beard flow and just get home and get it back in order asap, but i'm probably going to be exploring knots and braids more soon, as i have more length do wrap it around a few extra times.

I have been double knotting lately, I’ll have tk make a video on it! And there are waves/dents left after the knot, in most cases. So it’s smart to plan accordingly!

I use a hair tie, every time i go for a run/walk and it is a huge huge game changer. Minor tangles but so much better than the whipping effect, not to mention the forking that takes place when running in a head wind.

Ah, what I love to call “motorcycle beard” lol. I find that going out riding I now wear a bandana around my beard if I’m going for a long ride or highway riding. Local ride here and there doesn’t really bother me because I’m wearing my cut and it somehow blocks the wind from whipping my beard around. I bring the comb with me and that puppy is combed out when I stop lol

The wind often messes up my beard so I carry a comb all the time so I can fix it up once I have shelter. I don’t tie my beard up & I would never wear butter during the day - too greasy. I find using balm makes my beard more resilient but my beard is too long to be wind proof. I just push it back in place & wait for an opportunity to comb it.

Thick oils help too. I find castor-heavy blends that have some sticky to them help. My beard is still relatively short but long on the chin and gets wind-whipped a little and then slowly splits or parts and I don't like that. So I will use Jamaican castor oil or castor oil butter to fight that. That's also when I consider trimming or extra heat and straighten. It's the struggle between the goal and function and look. I got a question to ask you but I'll hit you up on Instagram and I am not sure if you covered this before... maybe Sam's input will help too
