This was one of my favourite Will Hay films after Oh Mr Porter! and Convict 99. Still a very funny film and holds up almost 90 years later.

Lots of fun. By the way, that sextant the good captain is holding at 6:50 is a very rare double frame sextant made in the UK between 1870/1880 and worth a pretty penny today. They were the most expensive sextants of the period.

@@Morrisfactor I imagine it was used in countless films too. The studios tended to reuse a lot of props and sets

For any one interested the opening sequences of the Square Rigger i think are from Capt John Irving's film of the 4 masted barque 'Peking' rounding Cape Horn the 'wrong way' - East to West in truly terrible weather. This film of the Peking is truly amazing, its a miracle that any one on deck survived at all, this film which is only about 20 mins long is a real slice of history and is well worth a look. The sailing ship Pekin was originally built for the famous 'Flying P Line' of Hamburg, and was until a few years ago in the South Street Seaport Museum in New York which is where I visited her, she was sold to the Hamburg Port Museum, where she is being completely refitted. If you ever have the oportunity to visit her do not miss out.

I thought this was funny, it is a comedy of it's era, but the idiocy and plot make it timeless. Will Hay. My Mum would have remembered him.

They don't show many old films anymore, Saturdays they put musicals on bb2 in the used to love to watch them we at grans, even on Sundays they put films on, nowadays it the same rubbish that's on the week or repeats, it's like we are a lost generation who they don't care about😢
