This short video shows how the programmable Winder Traverse is set up and how to use it to wind a pickup coil

This looks like the missing link to my home-built setup using a mini lathe for a winder.. it can get pretty boring guiding thousand of turns of wire on a coil by hand. Can you offer any info as to the approximate rpm of the winder for that traverse speed used in the video example?

I don't like the way it stops a split second at the end of the strokes, that would surely cause more build up of wire at each end rather than an even curve you would get doing it by hand, actually you can see the build up at the end of the video when you stopped it, it might be an idea to speed the traverse up a bit which may help and you'd get more of a scatter wound feel to the pickup, do you still use it as I see this video was done a couple of years back?

Is the purpose of the video to show off your machine or are you in the business of selling a coil winder?

And.... ? What is the purpose of the video?

The only problem is, what gives you that vintage perfect tone is due to uneven winding and tension on the wire, something only a human hand can deliver! So just like a relationship, the easy way is not always the best way!

we know Gibson never had hands involved with winding except to place the wire on the bobbin and turn on the machine. Hand wound is a myth.
