This is a problem on my driver side monte switch and my passenger side doesn’t light up but works fine

Yeah I ended up soldering in LED's behind the switches in my old Impala. (All switch lights were burnt out). Lighting circuit and window motor circuit are separated inside the switch. Luckily replacement switches are pretty affordable as well.

@@VanwithTim where did you get the LEDs?

@@chickenfoundation9323 I had to solder a 3v LED to a resistor, then solder that combo to the factory circuitry. I also put the face of the LED to a bench grinder or a rough file to help better dissipate the light instead of having a spot light effect. I think I just purchased the LEDs and resistors on eBay but this was over ten years ago

I have a question. What is the boa k substance, mine looks exactly like that. Is it some kind of graphite coating?

I think it's probably a carbon build up from the heat of a small spark created each time the switch is used. Found this online: "I suspect the black crud may, in fact, be copper oxide formed by heat from a hot spark."

Hi there. I am searching for the van passenger switch but it’s unfortunately discontinued from all stores. Does that mean I should look for them at junk yards or can the impala/monte Carlo switch be a able to be able to replace that?

I bought a replacement at AutoZone a few months back but it looks like they’re sold out as well. Was part number SW4184. You could probably email the customer support at Dorman Products to see if the Impala switch would work.
