Requiring TPM 2.0 doesn't make much sense as long as you're not trying to use Bit-Locker, which most people never use unless your system is a corporate laptop. I've never used (or trusted) Bit-Locker on any of my systems ever. Last thing I want is to encrypt my hard drive and then have Microsoft screw up the key management so suddenly I can't get back to my data anymore. And they wonder why we don't trust Copilot or Recall!

If I want to encrypt something, I WILL CONTROL MY OWN KEYS! I won't leave it to a piece of hardware that could fail, or someone could steal! And I won't leave my keys in the cloud, controlled by someone else!

I've got nothing against Linux, but Linux users live in an echo chamber. They way they talk, the whole world would have switched by now, and clearly, overwhelmingly that isn't the case
@jedipadawan702316 сағат бұрын
@@WCT Actually, worldwide quite a few likely are. I have already put Linux on a number of ancient laptops out here that CANNOT run Windows 11 not just for TPM 2.0 but simply because their old machines are beyond operating Windows 11. We are talking 2GB RAM machines here with really old, VERY SLOW HDDs but they cannot afford to upgrade. These machines cannot run Windows 10, forget 11! The worldwide economy is beyond tight! People really, REALLY cannot afford new hardware, Given also how people now generally use Laptops as Chromebooks "I use google" there is a LOT of reason for people to jump to Linux. Add in concerns over Recall, co-pilot and Microsoft forever resetting settings and there is a LOT of Windows discontent. I'll grant the majority are not going to jump to Linux. Lack of knowledge about Linux, a LOT of online propaganda about how Linux is all about the terminal and typing commands (not true but the posts continue) keep people away, and, of course, industry and Adobe users are completely locked into Windows... forever. But people ARE shifting. It's certainly not the case that "No-one is going to Linux." They are! Techies certainly are, and they are taking some normies with them and give hardware costs and Microsoft's increasingly belligerent behavior matched with, as I say, the fact most users just "Do Google and KZbin" yes, people are going to jump. Lots of posts on techie sites "I have gone Linux Mint."

@ryanpaaz18 сағат бұрын
TPM 1.2 is a pretty good system, but they (tinfoil hat time) likely want to lock you into their new AI system and somehow harvest your data (or your profile/trend group) they can then monetize. Functionally, the W11 features really don't need the latest hardware. At least not like when you upgraded from Win95 to 98, it was obvious the hardware was being used to the new capabilities. This is all a monetization play somehow. It's not like I need or even want Bitlocker drive encryption on my personal machine. I encrypt my sensative data with Veracrypt because I don't trust MS if there's a crash.
@jogo826117 сағат бұрын
If you just simply download a Windows 11 image file from the Microsoft website and rather than using Microsoft’s own media creation tool to burn it to a bootable USB drive and use a tool called Rufus, you can remove the requirement for TPM and a PC with a core to duo will boot windows 11 That requirement was always a cash grab to force people to upgrade their hardware. But like always, there’s a way around the corporations greediness

It is not needed unless you WANT the security features. It runs fine without a TPM. The reason nobody is using windows 11 is because it is a big 💩
@Romactu18 сағат бұрын
However, Microsoft won't necessary extend Windows 10 support, and probably may continue to push further it wants (Not what we want like it used to). Microsoft use to extend support for previous version of Windows due to lack of populations for a latest version (Windows XP and Vista are one of them).

Microsoft have turned your computing device into a store/trading device for 'apps' and that calls for all the compulsory security. None of these are new though, only it was just up to you to decide what level of security you needed, and implementing some of those needed manual configs and you just had to be a little more tech savvy.
@TheRonnyboy20104 сағат бұрын
It's not just the TPM 2.0, but also the CPU that gives the biggest problems. From 7th gen and lower from Intel and AMD lower than ZEN 1 or ZEN 2 with the TPM 2.0 are already written off before they are properly tested by Microsoft. I also don't have the money to pay for 1 pc, 1 laptop with Windows 11. So Microsoft is slowly going through a big sinkhole from which they can no longer dig themselves. I am curious how they are going to get out of this.

So, in order to run bitlocker, something I don't even use in Windows, or any other security feature, I need TPM 2.0? Weird because I only use my Windows PC for third party applications, Steam, GOG, EA games, and a couple Xbox games, and web browsing. Hell I don't even use the new start menu. I changed the menu back to windows 10 look as well. Why? Why do I need TPM 2.0? The only reason I am on Windows 11 is because I'm tired of Windows 11 being pushed non stop, there was no off or opt out button. So annoying.

All this aside. Hackers have announced that they have broken Microsofts authorization system and will release information shortly. They claim it is fairly easy to do and there is nothing that Microsoft can do to counter it. What good is a secure boot going to do when your whole key based system is compromised ? Imagine never having to purchase any Microsoft product going forward when you can create "keys" anytime you want.
@g2kmobile64610 сағат бұрын
If you don't like tpm2.0 don't use Windows any more. Microsoft needs to be VERY careful. There are far too many other options out there. Apple has a walled garden too. If you want absolute control grab a linux distro. Microsoft isn't the only game in town anymore.

unlike some i dont care for bitlocker and fact they say its secure.. yeah to lock people from the data with that forced, and yeah fact that ltsc does not need this just shows what is considered secure to consumers vs a corp use case if its so secure then corporations should also be forced not just us, so something strange about this requirement
@michaelelkin95424 сағат бұрын
TPM is for forced bitlocker encryption, that is already forced on new installs and MS can force and turn on at any time on existing installs. Basically exactly like ransomware. I do not want ransomware on my computer, sorry.

How does a TPM make my PC secure beyond serving as a key store for Bitlocker or password storage? Are you getting jumped by a hacker in a dark alleyway, having to specifically give up your hard drive or getting shot?
