Brilliant video, May test that on my test bench tomorrow. I normally use Robocopy myself then cut over 😁

I just saw the first part and you can see that the procedure is correct. Good job!

This might be a dumb question, but does doing this process also set the destination as the primary file server? For example if someone made a change to a file in the migrated share, will these changes be written to the destination or only the source?

Hi, Can this same process be applied to a file server cluster? currently, there are 7 servers in the file cluster all on 2008r2 need to migrate to 2019?

Hi - Thanks for the video. Just wondering if this process will overwrite any folders already present in the target folder? We currently have an old fileserver which needs user profiles migrating to a new fileserver but we have already started adding new users to the newer server and don't want the current folders to be overwritten. I did do some preliminary testing in our dev environment and it didn't seem to touch the existing folders but wanted to get your take on it (there is no duplication of folders in the two locations). Cheers.

Is there a way to copy the files from a share to the new server and preserve file metadata such as creation date, owner, etc?

You can disconnect the drive VMDK from the old server to the new one if you are using VMs 😊

Dunno if anyone will see this or not, but can anyone comment/speak to whether or not this would still be relevant/usable for migrating a file server from 2012r2 to 2022?

Does not this work on sbs 2008 ? I'm getting the following error when running. Any workaround would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Windows server migrations tool cannot run on this operating system etc.
