Installing Linux is so eZ just select a distro like Linux mint, Ubuntu download the iso make a bootable usb select boot from USB in bios and install it ez . there is also build in app store. 2 important command u need to know is sudo apt update and Sudo apt upgrade to install updates works on most of the Linux distros

Well I just don't think full Microsoft support is quite as important as some think. I use Windows XP every day on all of my computers, and it's a joy! I still get updates for my Web browser, antivirus, and even Microsoft Office, as well as anti-malware and other updates from Microsoft still! Microsoft might call it "End of Life", but that overdramatic term is far from reality!

If people don't mind upgrading to windows 7, but they don't like the look of everything, they can use a Theme Patcher which will patch 3 or something files. That will then allow the user to load unofficial themes that the OS alone, would not support, meaning that you can make your windows 7 PC look like Windows XP.

Windows XP will NEVER die! I use it and enjoy it in a virtual machine every day. It is the most iconic OS Microsoft has ever released. XP was so popular back in the day (and rightfully so), that Microsoft had to support it for literally 12.5 years (or 17.5 years for ESU), which is a significantly longer lifespan than any other OS ever released. I also have a 1990 Altima 3 Laptop with a 256 greyscale screen that has DOS 6.22 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11 loaded onto it lol It had a single card slot that I was JUST able to squeeze a 7.5 inch soundblaster card into with great difficulty. I used the joystick port to run MIDI through to drive my sound modules for my solo act back in the 1990s. HEHEHE (old man cackle)

I love XP and hated it when I shut down the computer for the last time. My Aunt still has a computer with a dual-core processor that runs XP and it runs nearly perfect. She somehow has no viruses or anything, aside from a few tracking cookies. Heck, I sometimes even get those myself on Windows 7 (great OS by the way), and I have everything from Malwarebytes to Hitman Pro installed on my machine!

The problem with packing up and going from Windows XP to Windows 8.1 is: You can't upgrade in one big jump. You have to stop in Windows Vista, and stop again in Windows 7. Also, Windows 8.1 just died, so you'll need to go to Windows 10 or 11. And, you guessed it, going from Windows XP to Windows 10/11 is not possible in one go, unless you wipe the drive and reinstall the OS fresh, which, you guessed it, destroys all your data. You'll need to stop in Windows Vista and Windows 7, then you can skip Windows 8.x and go straight to Windows 10/11.

Windows 8 was a big mistake, having the OS start at the "Metro" touch screen made everything confusing and this made a lot of Windows users really unhappy. Luckily there's now Windows 10 which has that great desktop GUI we all know and love while retaining the touch screen usage that Windows 8 had.

Without official support,security updates,no antiviruses programs at all and having closed the update feature along with firewall winXP still are running fine.And internet surfing using a third + one million party web browser plus mozilla 39 version or so and still the job is done by a Pentium 4 that can support win7 also.

i don't like this whole app store thing microsoft has going on... it feels like a separate entity within computer that is engulfing my operating system and everything else i'm working on, every time i open one up. trying to shutdown your computer is a mission too, i don't like the whole tablet/Phone thing they are going for with the PC. They should fire their R&D team... just because there is an increase of tablet purchases doesn't mean people want that at their work station... it's a good thing i still have my Windows 7 disc... going to re install it... skipping windows 8 and hoping Microsoft gets their act together in windows 9 or i'm going to start trying out other operating systems

I have to agree. I like the app system and touch screeniness... ...in my phone. For me a phone is a portable scratchpad/TV/gaming device/messager and my PC is an organized desk with a spinny chair. I dont get why Microsoft made such a radical change to the GUI, perhaps they felt they could do anything to their users, who would never switch to an alternative. Not me, I left for linux not long after Win 8 I always wondered how hard it would be to have a dual-GUI system, one GUI for tablets and one for PCs.. The core operating system could be exactly the same. But no, apparently Microsoft thinks that the future is one where everyone works on a phone or tablet, just like everyone would eventually use Internet Explorer

Microsoft is digging a grave for Windows 10, in my opinion. It was fine aside from some bugs at the start, but the forced upgrades, new restrictions and built-in spyware over the year made it terrible in my eyes. Not upgrading now, not upgrading ever. If I have to go to Ubuntu, I will. And the statement "Most popular programs won't run on Linux" is wrong, since I've been able to run nearly every Windows program I could find with Wine, or the more friendly PlayOnLinux.

I was actually able to install and use Linux all by myself, although I did not have any experience with any other OS that Windows. So, no, it's not hard. And yes, it's free. And yes, you get to update WHEN you wish to update your system and IF you wish to do so. And yes, your system is safe. Why? Because most of the viruses are designed to work on Windows, and not on Linux :)

Its not safe because its good, its safe because no one uses linux aka why apple WAS safe until more people started using it. The more people using it the more hackers will attack it. Not saying that there aren't Linux os's that aren't meant to be like bricks that are basically impossible to get into but the main reason why MOST are safe is because no one uses linux. Also most people don't like LUI and yes I know you can use GUI but why are you using Linux without a LUI :L no point.

Windows is not safe because its full of security holes, a backdoor and has tones of virus and isn't safe at all to use and no actually a lot of people use Linux both as there PC OS (of course not as many as Windows) as well as servers, super computers, TVs, phones, security systems, tablets, PCs and more are powered by Linux. Mac is just another example of a closed sourced OS that locked down there users as a method of "thinking" they are safe when there really not and realizing it now also back to Linux since Linux is open sourced and driven by the community and as it already is now which is far superior in security and virus free adding more users will only strengthen it and make it stronger and harder to attack. Do you even know what you are taking about? There is no such thing as a Lui does it mean Linux user interface because there is no such thing it uses what every computer Is uses which is a GUI a graphical user interface... realgroovy24 tech I only say this because I have one machine that I haven't updated for over a year, and I have another one that's on auto updates (both XP). The machine with auto updates turned on, barely works now, like nothing works lol, I will try installing Linux to this one in time. I will keep running windows on my other 'not so important machine', with out the updates for as long as it survives. If you run a system that's important (financial for example) I fully recommend, updating your OS to some thing that will get regular attention, as this is only a 'theory', or dark joke :)
