Gday mate!! Great vid!! I live in Western Australia (hot+dry) and I spray my Nepenthes at least three times a day in summer with RO water, as winter slowly come's the plants need less and less spraying. I never water mine in winter, then in summer I make sure they have time to dry out from water to water. Looks like your weather is just as full on as what we have here. At the end of the day plants are like people, they need what we need and if you can adjust to your or the plants environment(s) life will be a lot better for you and your plants. All the best!!

I mist my nepenthes as i dont have a greenhouse and the climate i live is a hot coastal one. I mist them anytime i go near them and the climate will do its job of drying the water, but i stop misting after evening. They've been loving it. I have kept them on a tray of water, making sure the pot doesnt touch the water. I have literally seen improvement in growth in just 3 days. And i water them once in 2 days making sure the substrate never goes dry. Somehow i randomly chose this schedule as i do for my orchids, but you are right on point. Perfect video. On the other hand, i might have to contradict your experiment. I doubted that the cocohusk will retain less water when you began the experiment as you are using the chunks. I am using coco peat which is finer. It retains a lot of water. If not in the first use as it needs to start absorbing, it surely holds a lot of water, probably the same as the other 2 media.
@WindowsillNepenthes

Your comment couldn't be better! My next video is precisely about coco peat and it's actually not that bad! Also, what orchids do you grow beside your nepenthes? I'm thinking about trying that (or maybe air plant).

Interesting! I live in a tropical country and my windowsill nepenthes grows in a mix of coco husk/perlite. And it SHOOTS UP like mad. I have a small wooden skewer (from a street stall) to test my soil's wetness, and as such I mostly water once or twice a week. I don't need to mist the leaves and pitchers (in fact, in my case, it makes the leaves and pitchers brown easier - maybe as a result of bad wind interaction from the constantly rotating ceiling fan) but the upper stems are not producing pitchers as they are now in shadow. Thankfully, there's now side shoots popping-up from the stem, close to the ground, so that's a relief.

I live in a really dry climate, although it’s near the ocean, it gets hot and dry in the summertime. I don’t have a greenhouse. I keep my nempenthes outside hanging in the shade. I mist my nempenthes with rain water when I have it, or distilled water, (never using tap water) twice a day in the summer. Once a day in the colder months. If I don’t mist them, they won’t produce pitchers and the existing pitchers will dry up. This time of the year (August), I’m watering every other day. Venus Fly Traps, I bottom water (with only distilled or rain water) and leave some in the tray for them to soak up in the hot weather. They feed themselves. I have so many pitchers growing off my nempenthes. I need to repot them soon because there’s one or two baby plants growing in their pots now. One of my plants is starting to fall out of the pot. Should I wait for dormant season to repot? I don’t know if I should separate the baby plants off the mothers. Does anyone have suggestions?

Friend! Awesome guide, saved it thank you!!! Im going to see your next videos I like the way you talk it's kinda hearthwarming :) I have some quick questions: Can I put 1-2 cm leca thingie on the bottom of my nepethes tray? and next would be can my tray be some plastic or glass container without a cover? Id love to spray them and keep water in container but it worries me kinda, that humidity thing. I live in a house made out of wood insulated with polystyrene and on top of that at the first floor. The container would be pretty close to the roof like 20 - 30 cm and its literally planks. Do you know if this would affect them in a harming way to my house? these plants are awesome and id love to take care of them but not if it has to cost me my home :( Nontheless you answer thanks again for awesome video!! Im going to watch more :)

Happy that you like it :) If the LECA is in the tray (not in the substrate) and you water from the top, the minerals will not be able to climb up and reach the roots. So yes it is possible. For the humidity and the wood, it depends of the air-flow. The humidity son't damage the wood but if the water you are spraying touch the wood it will be a problem. I never faced this problem and that's just my opinion on that, but you leave in your house so trust your opinion ;)

I recently moved my huge nepenthes from my outdoor verandah because it's winter here into my laundry, it's warmer in there and it gets bright indirect light right next to the window most of the day when before it got no direct light but bright shade. It seems to be growing a lot of new leaves but still no pitchers. It's trying, I see the tiny little pitchers at the tips but they always go brown and turn into nothing. Do you know what might be wrong? It is a very large plant, very healthy looking, huge shiny green leaves, growing over the sides like a vine, I re-potted it recently in long fiber sphagnum and perlite, what I always use, it's very well draining and airy and I water it with rain water. I also try to mist it with distilled water whenever I go in the laundry, it stays nice and moist for about half the day if I mist it in the morning. I really don't know what more I can do, do you think because it's winter and quite cold that's causing the problem? My laundry is tiled and gets very cold at night, maybe around 5 to 10 degrees Celsius. I'm not sure of the variety, but it looked almost identical to yours in this video when it was that size and had the same kind of pitchers.

I have the humidity for my nepenthes set at 80%. And I spray any tendrils with water as often as possible. Is that not necessary? Will they do just fine at 70%? . The light is the first most important thing I think, and then secondary is humidity for the pitchers to form, right?
@WindowsillNepenthes

With 70% or more, you don't need extra care for tendrils 😉 just give it good light.

A real clone would be taking a cutting as it's 100% plant and yes, I know how. if you are talking about tissue culture, from my understanding it's not really cloning as they use seeds.

For the peat moss it's better to repot because that's really compact (I have a video how to repot easily). For the water, it will depend of the TDS (minerals inside the water), if after the filter you have under 100 TDS, yes it's good. ;)

Yes for the humidity control it is key...When growing these plants you want consistent humidity and temperature. So yes some will grow but for them to be happy and flourish it takes similar conditions to the location they came from. With consistent humidity above 50% to 80% your Nepenthes will pitcher more rapidly, consistently and be a healthier plant overall. Happy growing!
