I have the 390 version of this screen with a clip-on pushed almost all the way down and tilted vertical. Which helped with buffeting. Works great and the clip-on snags all the bugs that used to splat on my helmet visor!

I’ve found no windscreen is often better than most alternatives. This applies on VStroms, not sure on other adv bikes. The distance from the rider to the screen makes it really difficult to design a screen that doesn’t cause some buffeting. I’ve got a Givi screen on my bike that doesn’t buffet, but it’s large and makes it really warm in hot weather since it blocks a lot of wind.
@advmatt Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree, no screen can be better. It's just not great in bad weather. This screen kept me pretty dry in some heavy rains. There is no perfect solution for this bike.

You want to be careful enlarging holes in lexan. They make special bits to drill plastic which are basically pointy without the corners. What they do is burn through while cutting. A normal bit can easily grab and crack lexan. Holes are always bigger than bolt to prevent stress cracking as you probably know. I fit a very expensive canopy on a homebuilt aircraft many years ago and did a lot of cutting and drilling. Its real easy to shape with a cutting wheel, file and sandpaper. You just need patience, and painters tape for protection. I also would not hesitate to use a heat gun on areas that are not in your line of vision if you need tweaking for clearance.

Tried out the Rade Garage windscreen as well (replica) Love the look and low speed. But it is super painful at speed. Can't wear a peaked helmet at all with it. It actually feels quite dangerous the amount it throws my head around. After trying 2 different screens, my preference is still the stock screen in the low position 😂

Well, that's very interesting. I'm 5'11" and was using Puig windshield dedicated for 390 ADV for whole last season and it was horrible, both wind protection and noise. Wind was hitting me right in the neck and chin in both low and high position. Felt like lifting my helmet off my head. This season went with RG windshield, also because of Matt's encouragement and I'm very happy with it. The noise is still there, but I couldn't care less since I'm using Alpine MotoSafe Tour earplugs. I felt the biggest difference where you didn't - I can freely look around in Scorpion ADX-1 with a peak at 70-75mph and it doesn't want to rip my head off. The immediate difference I fell above that, was more wind pressure on my shoulders. As you can see quite the opposite experience from my side.

I learned how to pronounce Puig from baseball and Yasiel Puig. Acerbis took me a bit longer until i saw one of their shirts that had a chair and bees and learned it was ah-chair-bees :) Do you happen to know if those 3D printed wedges for the 790/890 Adventure also work for the 390 Adventure? I have one that i downloaded from Thingverse and had printed locally for my 890 Adventure. It pushes forward the screen angle by 60 degrees and it works a treat for me with the OEM screen at 6'2"

@ADV Matt I may have an answer shortly. My wife and I are considering adding a 390 Adventure. If we decide to go that route, I will see if I can get the one from my 890 Adventure to work on the 390 Adventure. It made a world of difference for me in pushing the air up higher so that it wasn't a deafening roar at speed. But of course, YMMV, since we are all different heights, wear different helmets, etc.

@adamrosinski6642 Жыл бұрын
@@advmatt Today I received and installed RG windshield and have to admit that they applied significiant changes to their design. 1/ They change upper fitting, instead of bracket they use original windshield mounting points with some 3D printed plastic adapter and use both threaded holes, so no upper bracket 2/ There is no holes in the shield and they close gap between lamp and shield in the bottom part, so now shield is fully solid and there shall be no air flaw to inner side of shield 3/ Shield edge has kind of flange (to the inner side, approx 1 cm) and the edge itself is bulbed and nicely rounded, so no additional plastic protection of the edge is needed. This make the shield also, I assume, more stiffer, it is still elastic but not in such degree as you show on your installation video. So now time for test, I will revert with observations how it works in my case. But what I see already, the big advantage is plenty room for navigation equipment. I use 8 inch tablet and it fits perfectly leaving even some space for adjusting. Nice :)

@@advmatt So last weekend I have tried RG windscreen and there is no significant improvment reducing buffeting. Air stream is reduced (compare to stock windscreen) up to the arms, but head is not protected at all. I'm 170cm btw. As I mantioned, big advantage is lots of space for navigation equipment. Generally I assume that design satisfactiory windshiel for off and on road for this bike and any other is rather impossible. High Givi works well on road but for off road is useless, RG is kind of compromise but at higher speed we shall not expect significiant air flow reduction effect.

I have the same problem with buffeting because I´m 198 cm (6´6 i think, and I know y look ridiculous on the bike XD), and have the tall Ktm 790 Windshield on my 390. I adressed part of this issue by 3d prinitng a "spacer" that mounts to the original mounting holes. This spacer changes the angle of the windshield, and moves it a little forward, while using the same mounting bracket, making the buffeting wellless noticeable. The printing file is on thingiverse by the mane of KTM "790 Adventure Windshield doohickey", although I made some changes to the 3D model to make it a little taller because of my height. If by any chanse you want my file, tell me and I´ll upload it to thingiverse Greetings from Chile!
