How to slip into the foostraps with enough wind 1. Enough wind for gliding (not enough: forget the straps) 3. Your Foot joints (ankle) stabilize your Board. 4. Put your feet wider apart your legs more spread 5. forward Foot joint only stabilizes the Board 6. Backfoot being close to the back-footstrap...slip into it 7. Now stabilize the Board with the Foot in the back-footstrap 8. Sheet in the Sail 9. Step into the front-footstrap. OR: Stabilize with your forward foot (stiff footwrist) the board, get decided into the rear strap then stabilize the Board with the Foot in the back-footstrap and then sheet in the sail as much as you feel the sail is still drawing nicely. step now in the frontstrap. Doing so you will find yourself havin closed the gap between sail and boarddeck. And.......steer the board mainly with the feet....remember snowboarding or skiing.

Awesome footage there mate! Clearly stepped in to the back strap without enough speed there. At the last seconds of the slomotion you can see the water breaking away from the fin!(7:00) Never seen that on camera, so cool! And yeah..... i love this board, having a blast on it!

@@windsurfing_is_a_way_of_life Yeah, still looking for some navigation lights for when it takes of, so i am visibile for other airplanes

Haha, a couple of years back, I had almost a collusion with Owen. I saw the point of his board, through my window of my sail on boom height. That was pretty scary. Not sure who needed the navigation lights here, hahaha. Still wondering how we didn't collapse.

@@windsurfing_is_a_way_of_life Haha, yeah lucky it didnt happen:) Yesterday i was in some kind of sandwich between a surfer coming towards me and a surfer in the water. like 40m gap between each other but had to change coarse to go upwind a lot behind the incoming surfer to avoid the one in the water. The one in the water had a laugh because i had a big struggle doing that as my board started flying of and got tail walking like crazy. Got contol back in the end but took lots of efford😀 Sometimes this sport is kinda crazy 😂

Nice footage! So the big question now is: WHY?!? 😂 It looks like stepping in the backstrap first is really uncomfortable and creates a really ackward stance. I would be really scared to do that in more choppy water 😃
@windsurfing_is_a_way_of_life3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeroen, good question, haha. I´ve tried it in flat water and still didn´t like it :-). No I prefer the front foot first and then the back foot.

Both of you obviously cant extend the backleg and keep the weight and control on the forward foot. Solution: become flexible like a Karate fighter. And …most importand: dont go for the straps when there’s not enough wind. Btw. Frontfoot 2-3 cm more towards the centerline of the board.

It was more than just pushing the board away: you can clearly see the board go into a spinout because of excessive back foot pressure on thé fin. There is no secret: he’d better learn to get into thé front strap first. Back foot first may work on older boards like his slalom (the shape clearly has parallel rails) but not on a modern freerace board where the width of the tail is smaller than the width under the front foot.

Bearing too much upwind. Better have a neutral course and make it glide before you even think of goin into the straps and after that you canbear more upwind keepin the sail nicely closed ( and a little leaning forward of your body so the backfoot does’nt press too much onto the fin)

3:35 there you have the proof that steppin in with the backfoot first does work
@windsurfing_is_a_way_of_life11 ай бұрын
Yes, it can work. Depends on how you learned it. I tried it several times but it didn't work for me. Others do it all the time.

7:07 if wind is not strong enough ….its just not strong enough to get into the straps period
@windsurfing_is_a_way_of_life11 ай бұрын
That also replies to the volume of your board. The more volume you have the faster you can step into the straps
