Great tips! I had 2 years off injured and my gybes went backwards. I've been trying to improve them, as well as get back up to speed, and one thing someone told me was I was doing the foot change too late. It really makes a difference doing it earlier. You're in a more stable position to adjust to things and deal with the rig flip. I like the not one style fits all approach idea too.

What do you think about adjustable harness lines? How do you set them up and when would you change them? Cheers! As a beginner of 30+ years, I’m getting lots of lessons in the UK this year. Hoping to get on to one of your courses in Vass next summer (when I am a better standard).

Thanks, maybe this helps me to find the lost power! I noticed that my jibes are much better when I'm riding a wave... can't get a nice planing exit on the flat spots. This made me regain all the interest in planing out of the jibe consistently. The video is quite easy to understand indeed, there's something about the delivery! :)

Thanks, it helped me a lot with timing. Indeed i must change my feet earlier as well. The timing on sail flip in respect to the foot change is very good noticable. Very much appreciated!

Thanks for another amazingly informative video. I will definitely be putting all this into practice! I was really stuck on the foot change for ages. One thing that’s unlocked this move for me recently is thinking of it more of a ‘hip twist’ first rather than just a foot change. I was forever trying to change my feet with somewhat tense, locked hips pointing directly downwind. Relaxing, dropping and twisting the hips near the downwind point (but keeping the body upright) immediately drives the foot change for me. There is a point where I feel I have to change my feet - because my hips have already started to rotate. I think I can see something similar at 1:48 I may be barking up completely the wrong tree here 🤷‍♂️😂 but thinking about the gybe in this way seems to have really unlocked my progress 👍

Thanks for enjoying my video. You are definitely onto something with the hips rotating and following the rig. I have mentioned exactly this in the follow-up to this video all about the rig flip. Coming soon!

I can get into the gybes and even swap feet going clew first but I then struggle to keep the board turning so end up in no man’s land. It’s sooo frustrating.
@Cookiesports
@Cookiesports 3 ай бұрын
no-man's land- so straight down wind? That's where the adjustments come in... make the change... then adjust to turn the board as you need to...sounds like you need to get more onto the carving rail with the foot change- you're flattening the board off, hence why it stops turning.

The best tip : don't switch your feet!!! Keep your front foot in the strap and follow your planning in switch position... It s the only way to do smooth planning jibe in hardcore conditions... If you learn the gybe with switching feet, you will never pass one hand gybe or no hand gybe...
@Cookiesports
@Cookiesports 29 күн бұрын
What you’re describing is called a “strap” gybe… it has it place but ultimately is harder- I’ve done other videos explaining the pros v cons. This video is showing the classic “step” gybe, generally people learning will have better success in this style. 🤙
@vulcanjibe
@vulcanjibe 29 күн бұрын
@@Cookiesports Yes I know that everyone learns first with the foot movement but I find it is a mistake. it only works in smooth conditions and people are then blocked when it is very loud and choppy... It is so simple to learn before the switch stance navigation that I do not understand why we teach these complex feet's movements!!!

@@vulcanjibe 😂 definitely not a mistake to learn the step gybe first- These videos explain it more… kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGbFeY2Xipici6csi=JAC4t1JohSq0fEFs kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmatY6F6est0nKssi=5Wz2m6Q5P4fiBQaB

@@Cookiesports No problem with your approach! I just found It's embarrassing to learn the gybe this way because you have to completely unlearn it to succeed the full strap gybe... And it's the only way to pass one hand gybe, no hand gybe or clean duck gybe. It’s also a much better way to start the freestyle moves...

Excellent video! You can really see what's going on with your feet. To me, the footwork is one of the most difficult parts of gybing. I've been one of those people who switch their feet too late. My instinct is to wait until the board slows down enough that I feel comfortable switching my feet, but if I do that then there's no way I'll plane out of the gybe.
