Is there some law that says all windsurfing videos must have a pounding rock music clip in it? I windsurf on flat water and enjoy the peace and tranquillity while exploring lakes. For the record, I also surfed The Gorge every summer for about 15 years so I get it. But it's not the only kind of windsurfing.

The placement and timing of the footsteps are crucial. Perhaps you have another tutorial covering that..?

I am no expert but I'd like to say this. My gybes got much better when I started to place the back foot next to the FRONT footstrap, reaching with your body even more forward. It unweights the stern for me. I totally agree with the rest.

This is a good tutorial, but it doesn't say anything about how and when to switch your feet. For me, that's the most difficult part of the jibe.
@MaxSurfTeamLearnWindsurfing5 жыл бұрын
Hi David, When switch feet: If you are overpowered (like in this video) you switch your feet simultaneous to the rig flip on downwind. In normal or low wind conditions it is better to switch the feet later and surf a short moment in clew first position before flipping the rig, to get more stability. How switch feet: To initiate the Jibe you put the back foot in front of the back strap on the leeward side of the board. Look for a wide stance, feet prallel to bent both knees in the same way/direction. As you come to downwind open the sail and continue looking out of the turn. With weight on the back foot your front foot switches across the board and then the back foot can step forward between mast and front strap. Keep the weight over the new back foot, carving through the heels and pause in the clew first position or flip the rig simultaneously. Practice switching feet at the beach. Hope that helps you.

What works for me... switching the feet is just walking. Everyone can do it without thinking. Don't look at your feet or even think about them at all! They will switch by themselves at the right moment.

I would say you should switch feet the moment the back of the board passes through the wind and just before or at the same time as flipping the rig. Your back foot going into the turn should already be on the new side when you initiated the turn. All you have to do then is place your other foot behind the foot that is already over then move the second foot a bit more forward.
