Eleanor Boardman was great in everything she's done that I've seen. Bravo.

The first twenty two minutes of this film are classic. Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll (... OK Hot Jazz), anomie ... fun in tuxes and tails. This belongs in the genre pantheon that includes films like Richard Linklater's "Dazed and Confused", "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" that were emblematic of my generation.

In the 1960s it would be Easy Rider and The Trip.

Boy, that took a dark turn in the last act! Ben Lyon was married to two silent stars - Bebe Daniels for about 40 years, then after her death Marian Nixon. Vidor of course went on to make two of the greatest films of the silent era - THE BIG PARADE (1925) and THE CROWD (1928), the latter which also explores the darker side of married life.

Thank you for Wine of Youth from the early days of newly formed MGM studios coming off a merger between Metro Pictures, Louis B. Mayer Productions, and Samuel Goldwyn's second of three studios. Nice to see Eleanor Boardman being fought over by William Haines and Ben Lyon. And the flapper girls in rolled stockings, though I rather have seen them wear them up to their knees 😊. Interesting comedy-drama.

@@johnnyb4187 I was watching a 1925 silent, Pretty Ladies, and they used the slang word darb, which means an excellent thing or person. Before this movie, I had never heard the term dub. May have to start using it! 😃 Thanks for the time stamps.

@@tomc8115 I wasn't familiar with the slang term "dub" as used here in the film. Had to look it up... apparently a dub is a clumsy or awkward person or player.

If this is another anti drug, drink type movie as it appears and as many as they put out back then (covering everything from various alcohol mixtures to mj and even a morphine one) with the most famous probably being 'Marijuana', it's humorous that the so called war on drugs didn't truly start until the 80's. 😂
