Wine was invented in Gerogia? In Sighnaghi Kakheti, I have found the secret of Georgian Wine! EP12

About 8000 years ago, Georgia was the first country in the world to produce wine. I visited Sighnaghi, a town in the heart of Kakheti region. Nicknamed the city of love, Sighnaghi simply offers charm, cobbled lanes, stunning views and plenty of wineries and it's a must-visit in Kakheti wine region.
The secret of Georian wine is Qvevri - a clay pot buried in the ground, which helps to regulate the temperature. The pressed grapes, seeds, skins, and even the stems, are all tossed into the Qvervi. It is left to ferment to the winemakers' flavor. Those fermented products in Georgia are referred to as “chacha” - Georgia’s iconic, face-puckering, beloved grape brandy “chacha.”

That's a different way of making wine. I've always thought that wine was always made in wood barrels. Now I know there's another way of making wine, probably this is the oldest way too.

Loved this one also because I used to make my own wine using the whole grapes and even leaves in a similar method but in glass not clay. It does taste different to modern large scale wine production made from juice. Thank you again. I am really enjoying your journey home and lots more to come 👏
