I work in high end service and have found your podcasts to be an incredible source. Either to acquire new knowledge, or hone knowledge I already have. I think your channel should be much more popular and will be telling everyone I know about you.

It’s worth mentioning that China also has significant planting of Carmenere since 1890s. However all these years people recognise them as Cabernet Gernischt (蛇龙朱).

loved it, thank you - am just preparing for my WSET3 and (while also devouring your other casts) watched this after the New World tasting/refresher I attended the other night, where Carmenere was on the bill. I've done the course in Hungary and albeit I'm from here and love and know Hungarian wines (way past tokaji or bull's blood), in preparation from the exam I'm realising it's essential for me to move back to London if I'd like to keep at it - at the tasting as well, organised by Hungary's pre-eminent wine shop mini-chain, the Carmenere was unlike my memories of tasting the varietal during my restaurant trainings in London (that line up with the flavour profile you present in the cast) and despite its comparatively high price, tasted overwhelmingly of espresso and hardly anything but. Probably a producer favouring heavily toasted oak, but really ruining it for anyone wanting to enjoy the expression of the grape variety or pair it with any food (other than filet mignon in a coffee crust). Thank you ever so much for your work.

Carmenere is certainly under appreciated. I really think its a good grape.

I do, too. When it's handled properly in both the vineyard and the winery it offers a really fascinating suite of flavors and aromas that I love to think about closely while I sip. Cheers!

Yeah, I had a pretty good Chilean Carmenere the other day that I found at my local shop. Haras De Pirque Carmenere 2012 Reserva. I added Carmenere to my vineyard, so I will be trying my hand at California Carmenere as of 2018 the state has 30 acres statewide. So you will not find it here.
