This is the best channel I have come across in forever. I’m studying for my certified sommelier and this is soooooo helpful. I listen to your casts on the commute to work! Thank you!

Absolutely love it! You and your casts help me a lot with my level 1 sommelier exam (only missed 2)... I'm definitely going for my level 2 and started working on study for my WSET 1 as well. I have mentioned you and your channel to many people, hopefully your subscriptions have increased. Thank you so much

Thank you and congratulations on your somm exam. I think you'll enjoy the WSET -- it's a good curriculum. Thanks for spreading the word -- every bit helps, and I'm really grateful for the added exposure. Cheers!

Well done, and with distinction! Wow! I just tried to pass WSET3 last saturday, but it will take at least 3 months before I will receive the results. Your casts helped me quite a bit, so thank you very much for helping me prepare.

Thank you. I'm glad to hear that the casts were helpful. The waiting for the results was really frustrating, so I hope there's good news for you at the end of the wait. Cheers!

Congrats on your certification exam. 👍🏻 A wine enthusiast here. Love your casts. Thanks a lot ☺. Looking forward to your casts on the other regions of Burgundy. Never had a chance to taste a Burgundy yet. Only Chilean and American Pinot. It's hard to get hold of anything but commercial stuff here in India. But there are a few available but at twice its price it sells for in the US. Regards, Arun.

Hello! Thank you for the message. I'm glad the casts are helpful and that you're enjoying them. I'm sorry to hear about the expense for wine where you are. I hope a Burgundy opportunity comes your way -- some of them can be very special. Thank you again and cheers!

Loving your casts! I'm studying for my WSET level 3 and these casts have been so helpful! Just waiting for the rest of the Burgundy sub-region casts! Appreciate you're super busy with your own wine study though!

Thank you! I'm looking to do Italian Wine Scholar (just sent away for the Northern Italy Manual) and, if I haven't burned myself out, Spanish Wine Scholar when it rolls out in the Fall. We'll see about the Diploma after that, because, clearly, I'm a masochist. Cheers!

Great video! Would love to see one of these area specific ones on Montrachet

Thanks! The plan is to eventually do casts that are specific to single important appellations like that one, though I have to confess that that's a bit in the future as I have many more general regional and national topics to cover first. The nice thing about the Wine World, though, is that I'll never run out of things to cast on. Cheers!

Congratulations on your success. A very good but complicated cast on Cote de Nuits classifications. To buy a good burgundy wine is difficult given the multitudes of factors. governing the quality of PinoT Noir production. I always assume the quality of vintages alters significantly due to the concept of "terrior" e.g poor phenology and weather conditions . The Italian Gambero Rosso undertakes a huge annual wine tasting to produce the "Tre Bicchieri awards" which is a good but not always realistic indication of quality for the variety tested, Is there a similar annual tasting list for french wine?
@TheUnknownWinecaster6 жыл бұрын
Thank you and thanks for the message. I'm unaware of anything on the scale of Tre Bicchieri or of anything even similar for French wine, but I might just be uninformed. If you come across something like you described, I'd love to know about it. Cheers!

Dear Unknown Winecaster! I passed wset 3! Distinction on theory. Only merit on the tasting, so I have to practice more! Thanks again for your help!

Congratulations! That’s a great achievement. Remember, there are worse fates in the world than having to practice tasting. 😉 Cheers!

Very good stuff. From the web site Bourgogne they say that the Vosne Romanee region as 6 grands crus (you mentionned 8 ) could you clarified please ( la tache, richebourg, la romanee,, romanee conti, la grande rue , romanee saint vivant) thanks.
@TheUnknownWinecaster6 жыл бұрын
I clarify this in the Miscellaneous Information cast. The two Grands Crus from Flagey-Échezeaux are counted by some as part of Vosne-Romanée and by others as part of F-É. Cheers!

I think this is the first wine cast in which I knew absolutely nothing about the subject. On second thought since I rarely buy bottles above 20€ I guess it's not that unusual to have little experience with wine from Burgundy. Still, as usual thanks for the information.

in order to get certifications, what is it useful to know about those appellations? id like to sit into the wset level 2 soon and scares me the fact that i have to remember all those appellations/grand cru/premier cru etc
@TheUnknownWinecaster6 жыл бұрын
It depends on the curriculum. The ones I've done are all pretty clear about what they expect you to memorize (with the Wine Scholar Guild curricula probably being the most explicit), so you'll know pretty quickly what you do and don't have to remember. Keep in mind that all of these certifications have a pretty wide margin to qualify -- in other words, you can usually miss quite a few questions (up to 30 out of 100 in some of them) and still pass -- and that's because they know you can't memorize everything. But the farther up the ladder you go, the more you will have to commit to memory. To offer some context, memorizing all of the information on appellations in this cast is probably more than what you would need to pass the relevant questions on the WSET 3. Hope that helps. Cheers!

Hello there l would like to ask from your experience...l want to enroll WSET 3 and what kind of supplement books can l use
@TheUnknownWinecaster6 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for the question. The WSET 3 is a good curriculum so I would totally encourage you to sign up for it. When it comes to the WSET or any other curriculum, though, it all comes down to mastering the study guide. When I'm studying for a certification I'm completely focused on the study guide because that's where all of the questions will be coming from. You're not going to hurt yourself by checking out books like the Oxford Companion to Wine or similar books, but just be sure that if there's a conflict with the WSET study guide that you follow the manual or you won't get credit AND keep in mind that you might learn all sorts of information from other books that's accurate but that if it wasn't in the WSET study guide you won't get credit for putting it down on the test. So, you'll be OK if you just stick to the study guide. Hope that's helpful. Cheers!

Pls make cast about Cote de Beaune
@wyattalexander40416 жыл бұрын
I thought flagey-echezeaux was one of the villages ?
@TheUnknownWinecaster6 жыл бұрын
There's no Flagey-Échezeaux appellation. The village and premier cru vineyards use Vosne-Romanée as their village and the two Grands Crus, which are their own appellations, usually get folded into the V-R count depending on the curriculum. Many curricula, like French Wine Scholar, for example, omit mentioning it because while it's a village that has vineyards in it, it doesn't give its name to any wine. Hope that helps and thanks for the question. Cheers!
