I think that all of pain compliance techniques commonly found in old arts is really just "pre fight" stuff, if someone's not commited to a full on fight and you preemptively use some pain compliance that's pretty much THE only valid use of it, fighting is different, adrenaline does a lot

In almost every street fight video where two people fight for a considerable amount of time and are more or less evenly matched they NEVER run out of space, people follow them all around

Obviously, what a load of crap. By the way, Pro boxing gloves are designed to protect the hand and transmit force. Less likely to break your hand with gloves on.

I don’t think so. We met via a Facebook group called the fajin project. We recently had a meet up of group members which I uploaded a video with highlights from the meeting. Jim was invited and told of the opportunity to spar but chose not to. He had been invited to the next meeting where he has offered me some ‘heavy sparring’. If he shows then I’ll send you the footage.

As usual, the Wing chun guy is full of excuses. Put on the glove and go to spar with boxing, muay thai, or kickboxing guys, see what work and what dont work. If your wing chun is a concept art, u can adapt and deal with them.

Timing, range and angle... those who train to fight in combat sports (combat sports - the universal method of all warrior cultures to hone martial skill) understand you have to earn position, you have to control angle on an opponent, you got to lead the opponent "into the void"... you got to be able to transition across ranges and skill-sets... striking and grappling.... footwork is paramount. This can't be explained to those who one-step spar with a compliant partner who throw a stupid attack, freeze in place. And leave the arm out like a beam to work around. Fair play on your attempt to offer enlightment, but you can't teach a pig to sing, just wastes your time and only annoys the pig! Trad Gung Fu always had leitai... modern sanda is an equivalent (although it's been cast in the shadow by MMA .. MMA offers a career, Sanda asks the fighter to pay...)
@indefenceofthetraditionalmaКүн бұрын
Very well put and very true. I like your use of the void to explain your point. Even at amateur level I got paid for ticket sales. Not to mention the fact that fighting in the cage is a spectacle. A cool venue. Lights. Production. A night to remember. Sanda events usually take place in a sports centre with barely an audience and, as you said, you have to pay for the privilege

Only watched the beginning (about 9 mins), but power etc doesn’t really matter if you are just doing light sparring. I think wing chun practitioners would learn from light sparring, boxing rules, or Thai boxing rules while wearing gloves. Light sparring is just skill building. I don’t think it can be used for sport fighting though, as too many things it relies on for defence would be banned. Sparring is part of training your human’s responses. And gloves and gum shields make sense to me, even in light sparring. I think there are kick and takedown defences that simply couldn’t be used in sport. Eye strikes can be ignored as alternative hand techniques could be used. Think the wing chun guy here could do with some light sparring.

He’s offered me some heavy sparring if I don’t used head kicks
@glennspigel63459 сағат бұрын
I think even light sparring without head kicks would make an interesting video. He said he was 60, so just playful light sparring could highlight some issues if he hasn’t done much sparring.

I barely ever spar heavy. The only time I asked to go heavy with someone was preparing for my second mma fight (and I’m so glad I did) as I hadn’t had much experience of being hit hard. I always allow my partner ro dictate the pace and intensity. I respond to what they give and the threat that they pose

You ever hit a guy in the throat who's trying to knock you out? Or you're just certain you're effective and there's no challenge to land it accurately while under pressure of someone trying to hit you and defend against/counter your attacks?

Wing Chun jkd or kung fu has many useful applications in mma and many people use them . Wing chun has some skills not so suitable, no diffrent from gi or no gi , big gloves or small gloves , head guards or shin guards, some techniques from some styles suit some forms of competition better. Wing chun is very good for wrist control and grip fighting but if people don't train that for instance in gloves alot or more than without gloves they don't develop as much skill in gloves . Thai boxing is good for competition with those size gloves because they train in them all the time . Gi grapplers get better at gi competition because they train in gi most of the time. Everyone that gets into mma knows its a combat sport . Lots of people started Wing chun knowing its not a combat sport . Some people like mma some people like tai chi it doesn't make one person better. Some people have a flash car others don't some people like cricket some people like rugby it doesn't mean we are better people, but it does mean some people are more competitive than others. For me , martial arts is more of a fellowship of like minded people, it's not a war to decide who can kill who . When it comes to actual killing or defending, its not all about style or techniques. Well done for exchanging politely. Good luck with your training everybody .

Fhat was a lot of writing to kiss the point totally. The guy was saying wing chun punches don’t work with gloves
@MartialArtUK2 күн бұрын
@indefenceofthetraditionalma I understand that as per title, maybe the " wing chun guy " will learn from this too and other people in the comments. You mention boxing here but boxers still get beaten in mma , ufc fighters get beaten up by jake paul . Bare knuckle fighters get beaten up in mma . It's never all about style, one might train a superior style in a less than superior way. One might train a inferior style in a superior way . Styles are all limited, people that only train one style are limited . Its not style it's logic . Thanks for sharing and the comments.
@indefenceofthetraditionalma2 күн бұрын
@ mma by nature isn’t limited
@MartialArtUK2 күн бұрын
@indefenceofthetraditionalma mma is limited depending on rules of specific contest . But even if mma is not as limited that's no surprise because its the most modern and popular . We know mma is the best at mma but we also know mma guys lose fights too. If the point is to prove mma is better than wing chun , is like comparing pop to contemporary, Ford to tesla . By definition mma includes wing chun for many wing chun people that do mma . Mma might be better for some than others, not everyone that does mma is a ufc star . People make their own choices in life , for instance catholics and mudlims we could do videos on why their God story is nonsense. But why bother, the best thing about martial arts is actually doing martial arts . If someone likes to go to boxing, that's cool, if someone wants to go to wing chun or bjj that's also cool . I know two boxing instructors that then done wing chun because they think it's good and I know a karate instructor , a judo instructor and a bjj Prof that does alot of wing chun because they think its good and a sambo coach that teaches wing chun because its good . Wing chun is just as good as any other style like any other style how good someone gets at it is individual. Thanks for your comment, keep on training

OK wait a second.... 1st WT is not too deadly for gloves but they do not only strike they have to use their hands to for sticking hands etc and for this exercise gloves are an disadvantage...doesen´t mean they should not practise with gloves too; 2nd... You have not been hit at the balls as hard as it´s possible and if you get hit hard for most guys it will End the fight (even for MMA fighters - they are not super hearoes)... I have seen that happened in real live (and by the way it can cause internal bleeding too); You can also end a fight with proper hits to other human parts and they are not this sensitive than your balls. (you don´t believe it... watch more mma) 3rd if you get hit at the eyes properly you will not see everything for secs to minutes which will iritate you, shock you for a moment, will make feel you helpless and even if you keep striking and if you don´t land a 1 in a million knock out the fight is over for you. So if you are not completely in rage and are still able to think clearly you will not keep attacking (shure... as a defender you will still try to defend yourself).
@indefenceofthetraditionalmaКүн бұрын
Your comments are kind of proving my points. If two people are wearing the same type of gloves then they are on a level playing field. A kick to the balls can end a fight in the same way that a punch to the jaw can. If you review street fights, compare how many end from a groin kick compared to punches. Same for eye pokes. They may disable an opponent or they may not (same as any other technique). I even used an example of a fighter that was poked in the eye, carried on, and won the fight via knockout.
@DerpaifyКүн бұрын
You all talk as though a fighter from MMA, boxing, or any other discipline can't strike you in those same areas, with whatever developed speed, accuracy and ability to exploit defensive weaknesses they certainly have some amount of. It also acts as though you have a free shot and will never land off target, like the defensive skills learned from sparring and countering don't apply to attacks on genitals or soft tissue. Get two evenly matched guys, have wing chun one use ball strikes and eye pokes and boxing use whatever close fist strikes only. I'll say ready set go and let's see whether the boxer gets blinded from both eyes getting damaged or dropped from testes, before the king foo legend curls up against the wall or on the floor cradling his new hematoma-porridge head.
