Greetings, thank you Adam and Chris. I use the pole for the body structure and strength while holding a postures for a few seconds or minutes. You guys have so much fun👍🏾

For the next episode, I think Chris should wear arm padding and maybe a safety vest just in case

Hi Sifu Adam thank you for the important n wonderful insight into the wing chun pole. imho at almost 9ft long the pole is quite difficult to wield effectively. perhaps it has got do with its alleged origin story that it came from the red boat opera people n was used to fight from boat to boat. hence the length and its reliability on short power due to limitation of space on a moving boat. in the tradition of the northern arts the long pole is usually a form of the long spear, or as a way to condition the arms, lower back, footwork, and shoulder strength, etc. i was taught that there is always a dilemma between using short power or relying on full brute force. but in all martial arts footwork and positioning is critical too. perhaps my elders knew short power takes a long time to master so an all on brute force is a surer way to work. lol we practiced with a 7ft pole and the 9ft long pole was reserved as a conditioning tool. i mean if u watch those old vids of the legendary tang yik he wasn't using a very long pole. his footwork was very agile and he has the habit of low stances, almost crouching to minimise his size, for safety. it was also a mix of short power n some really big large brute force moves. anyway i dont practice the wing chun pole but with martial arts most of the principals are universal. that was my 2 cents and thank you again for the amazing work of bridging tcma with practical use. im a big fan. take care.

I love the dragon pole I’ve always used short power to disarm and strike the hand and travel up the pole after I strike it down to the opponent torso

Nature of pole is similar to one-armed wing chun. Need to counter-act opponents ability to stick and immediately counter act an offense. In the stick, this is done by exerting short power to deflect their weapon and follow with another strike on their weapon holding hand (so they're not able to put up resistance). 6 moves in the stick. Form teaches all the orthogonal vectors of attack.

Nice episode, the only issue I see is that in reality, if yo hit someone with a long poll (strike or thrust) the man will not strike you back. A mortal can not sustain a strike from a long poll/ quarter staff, not even in armor. Great weapon, great point about short power though. Thanks.

Hi, great vids. What's your insight into "the pole doesn't make two sounds"? Thanks again.

I wonder if those poles are just dialing instead of maple or cherry wood I have both although the cherry wood poles is a little heavier than my maple wood pole but also both poles are tapered at the ends.

Ive wielded a long pole in class... and one end has a long Taper, towards the rear. They are made of very tough and dense Hardwood, and shouldnt easily break like this. My guess is that this pole is a railing, made of softer wood... hence why it broke so easily.
