How can Bay say Bruce didn't speak English fluently. Watching the Pierre Burton interview he sounds a cool as any American (actor). Yes there are some words he has trouble getting his tongue around and some of the things he articulates are a bit awkward. But very minor things.

In the Mandarin version of Way Of The Dragon Bruce Lee does in fact loop his own dialogue for his character during one particular scene and he does it in English. It's the part where Tang Lung is struggling to read the numbers on a business card in English to a telephone operator while using a pay phone. He nervously reads the first couple of numbers to the operator "3 and 5" just before becoming frustrated and hanging up the phone because he doesn't know how to say the remaining numbers on the card in English. I read this in an article about him many years ago back in the 90s.

0:05 bang. Nailed it. 💯😛🤛1:01 this is my favorite podcast. 16:30 seems as if Bruce was involved in a political debate about how to fill a movie up. And people wondering if he was actually "TOUGH" 😂❤26:41 Bruce was looking into a lot of WHITE CRANE at that point. I had the privilege of learning some SPREADING CRANE it was called. If anybody practices 18 hand PAK SAO, you’ll remember our form, it always has a control hand help an action hand, in WHITE CRANE you’ll see these very same methods. Then we looked into snake shaolin forms, and I found out WING CHUN is a SNAKE and CRANE art. To me. Doesn’t mean I’m right. But it helps me to comprehend some of our predecessors ideas better.” That was dope. I liked how he had intimate knowledge from experience. 💯✅

😅 Sifu , the mystery of Hakeem Abdul-Jabbar's Pink Eyes 😂🤣?? If I can give an option on that "handy cap". Hakeem in Real Life is a professional 🏀 athlete! His long 💪&🦵 reach would be nearly impossible for a 5'7 man ( even if he is Bruce Lee) to get close to A Man at 7'2 height. Bruce the writer knew if his character was going to defeat this Very Tall & Athletic foe ,the character had to have a weakness Bruce's character can exploit! Enter The Pink 👀 & sensitive to 💡theory. In The Law of Physics , A very good Big Man will have an edge over the Very Good Little Man.

Sifu I'm with Bey Logan Fist of Fury is was favorite also! it was very personal & emotional in many ways in real life & the history of the character Jeh Shen. Martial Artist comes back to The School he trained at to ask his classmate for her hand in marriage! Jen Shen learns his teacher & mentor ( pretty much a father figure) of his Death. Jen 🤔 foul play & his instincts proves correct. He chose Death & Vengeance over Life & ❤ ( & the children they may had ). It's a path no one can ever judge due impact The dease teacher had on the vengeful student!

G.o.d was filmed without sound. He passed away before ADR was added. If any battle cries are heard. Like in 78 G.O.D i believe it was a voice actor Chris Kent. In warriors journey. Revisited. Redux . His battle cries were taken from fist. enter. And way . Same as in the 82/83 Cantonese version of the big boss. Because after the big boss he was not around for post production because he flew back to the states to film more episodes of longstreet . News to me about the Japanese guy dubbing him in way . I understood he did 2 to different battle cries fot both the English and mandarin versions of way . He had more control over that movie. Hope this info helps you pal 👍

Fists of Fury had the best story and narrative structure. Way of The Dragon had the best fight scenes. But weakest story. Enter The Dragon had the biggest scope best quality and production values. But ironically, the poorest fight scenes. The Big Boss was the worst overall of Bruce's films. Boring. There's enough of Game of Death to realize that it was going to be a rather experimental film but what we got, fortunately was a 33 or 39 minute long fight scene.

@@TheKungFuGenius hehe, u are a great debater, i give u that. let me just mention something without wanting to convince anyone. is not really true that cantonese people of those years could not totally understand mandarin. they might not be able to speak it, but would be able to understand some of the basic dialogues of these movies. also, let's not forget that many of these films movies had subtitles so that they could be understood in all the different south asian markets. just my thoughts. thanks
@TheKungFuGenius
@TheKungFuGenius 11 ай бұрын
Yes, of course they had subtitles otherwise the films would be completely unintelligible. Obviously, Cantonese speakers can understand some basic phrases, but to think that they would follow the plot of a movie would indicate you’ve never sat next to a mandarin speaker while watching a Cantonese film or vice versa.
@xibanyae
@xibanyae 11 ай бұрын
@@TheKungFuGenius nope, vice versa would not be the same, mandarin speakers will NOT understand canto, not only the language, but the whole subtle idioms and jokes, etc... also, i mentioned the basic dialogues, not the plot of a movie. again, u should be a lawyer (maybe u are) 🤣
@TheKungFuGenius
@TheKungFuGenius 11 ай бұрын
There are literally new films about old generation Hong Kong Chinese struggling in HK today because they don't understand Mandarin. The gap was far worse 50 years ago when the movies in question were made. I'm sorry, but RP or transatlantic is not a better analogy no matter how much you think presenting an argument means I'm "debating" or lawyering you.
