Wing Foiling the Armstrong APF 1675 vs 1350 in Light Wind

Light wind wing foil session where I try the Armstrong 1675 and 1350 back to back. It was pretty interesting, both are great fun. Super stable, very forgiving and easy to get up on, but for sure the 1675 came up a lot earlier than the 1350. I did feel more comfortable jibing and pumping on the 1350. I'm working on my jibes and struggling not to overrun my wing in the super light air, but making progress for sure. Thanks for watching!!

The 1675 seem to have a mind of it’s own , the foil going this way and if you are not agreeing you are out of the board 😂 that what happen when the foil is too big. How many degree do you have in your shim ? Big wing and big wingspan foil make me nervous . Damn for the gopro, the view on the wing is pretty good to see the pumping . Ps : i answered you about foil placement .

haha I totally agree on teh 1675, it does not react to the input that my feet put in like other foils do. it's kind of annoying, but time on it has made the situation better. I use 1.5 degree shims on pretty much all my stabs.

@@OCEANBOUND1 with the Armstrong board you can add backfoot, but with flat bottom board you have to add front foot for Armstrong i think, on the progression project forum i put a pool with a calculator of tail rocker for people to share their data and help each other to have mixed gear. i will be curious to see how much degree Armstrong board have on the tail. cant link directly the url it's gonna be automaticly filtered. Im gonna make a video about it soon.

Yo Youdig! I appreciate your input on foil placement, I've started playing with mine now a bit and for sure it's got me confused about the best way to go. I've been watching a lot of vids of people with the same board as me to see where there feet are on the top deck. I've noticed I do stand a bit back from where some others do, so I'm looking forward to seeing how adjustments suit me. My shim is 2 degree and I have found I like that type of shim regardless of board or foil brand. I've tried Uni and Armstrong and with both I like the 2 degree shim. I have only tried it on three boards so far but on all of them I prefer the shim. KT, Armie, and Infinity prone board all felt better to me shimmed. I think it's just preference for board angle. I was watching the latest KT vids and Kane is using a similar shim even on his full brand new KT foil and KT board kit, which sorta surprised me but then he did say he just likes to ride nose up for level flight like you would on a surface surf board. Makes sense to me. I agree about the 1675, it's a beast! I like the lift though, and in this vid I really could see the early lift getting me going when I struggled a bit with smaller kit. @@FluidFoil you think it's a preference but im pretty sure with the armstrong board you will have a lot more front foot naturaly just by moving your foil in the track . You can really go overboard with the front foot , and the same for goes for the backfoot. too much front and you are killing the speed of the foil and the ability to go upwind, too much backfoot and you will ride in a awkward position and make the foil very hard to ride at speed as you will get more and more backfoot and so on . For me while watching your video, you are just a little bit font footed not much so it's perfect like that . Usualy we can get used to everything, but remove your shim for one session and you will be shocked and wonder how you were riding like that before, i know because that exactly what happen to me riding with no rake shim with my new board. Maybe the kt foil gear is naturaly backfooted overall , it's can happen too ! some foil behave really differently. When i was using armstrong on a gong i was riding with a 2.5 degree shim so not this far from your setup !

@@youdigsurf Awesome feedback man, thank you! I will try without the shim sometime and see how it feels. I also am ready to downsize my board so that might change things a bit in the future, I struggled with the DW board in Hood River as the waves were so big and short period it was hard to get going when I came off foil. Thanks for the input, it's super helpful!

Nice! I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts. I was kinda surprised, I thought I would feel more strongly about the slower speed of the 1675 but I really appreciated the easy lift and they both are so user friendly. I definitely have a use case for both when winging, and since the flat water paddle up is a goal I think I'll be using the big one more than ever. That said, the 1350 is a great light wind wing, I am finding it to be stable and fast, it's definitely helped me work through my jibes. It'll be interesting to hear how you feel about them from an advanced perspective. Thanks for the comment my friend, hope you have an awesome week!

It's not a 360, just a Gopro 11 with the max lens mod to keep the horizon level.
