I had an art teacher once upon a time, who was truly skilled with paint and sketching... AND she warned me that my biggest problem with the things I struggled worst about drawing was "Trying TOO hard"... I'm reminded of her from time to time, when I see comments like this one... and maybe, that's a problem for more people than just me. ;o)

This is by far my favorite art channel on KZbin for the simple reason that you guys just make things so easily learned and digestible- you just sort of explain principles (even more complicated ones) in a way that's super easy to understand and apply to your own work- for example, I hadn't even thought about the cold highlights/warm shadows thing consciously but it makes complete and total sense and I'm definitely keeping that in mind for future work down the line. I'm working on about a 50-page minicomic at the moment that I'm definitely going to apply this principle to. Thank you guys for doing what you do, it's absolutely invaluable ♥

A lot of my art is actually based on a colder feel, which means usually I stick to the singular hue of a color, and I do sometimes use that to my advantage to create points of interest by adding in more hue variation in places such as a clearing in a forest or a cave with light shining on a pedestal, so I'll note, hue variation can be used to better direct the eyes towards the main part of the piece. This is if you wish to do this sort of coloring style. Also, this is by far the best video on cel shading 2D stuff I've ever seen, it's very thorough and simplistic enough to understand while not babying the audience.

"Half of learning to draw, is observation. Understanding what you're looking at, and not just drawing from imagination" I always saw it as the other way round, but this makes so much sense now that it's mentioned. Thanks for the guide, it's really well put together to help understand the process 😊

I love all of these tutorials as it explains not only how to draw something but gives skills to the artist like observing and reciprocating things from references which i find very helpful! most art tutorials never give an explanantion to why things look certain ways so im glad that this channel does :D

Your teaching style works perfectly for me. I really like the your speed and explanation. I like how you first showed us the concept of hue shifting, then told us what it was, then showed us examples of it while referencing back to it. You are such an excellent teacher, thank you for the video! You gained my subscribe :D

Fun thing with green edge glass, (from what i know) you can only see the green edge on one side, so basically if you look at an angle through the middle of the glass and try to see the edge it’ll be much less prominent and might look like its not there

12:35 something to remember with glass is that because of how it refracts light, it looks much thinner than it actually is and the far edges whose light passes through the glass pane should be much narrower slivers than the closer edges

I would love to see you do one with false colors/abstract colors (not sure of the right terms) for shading and shadows. Hearing your narrative as you explain and make decisions would help with context.
@benzene_sandwich Жыл бұрын
i wouldnt take her word as gospel if i were you, she was wrong about shadow and light color in this video. Warm light doesnt mean cold shadow, cold light doesnt mean warm shadow. Your shadow color is the color of your ambient light or environment. the color of the light doesnt have anything to do with the color of the shadow.

For the cracked the glass, they should be as thick as the glass pane is. So your's was a bit too thin. Keep in mind there's also a refraction going on so they might not appear as thick as the sides of the pane of glass, but it should be at least close in thickness.

how did you make it at 6:00 where your green painting over brush doesn't go over the black line and onto the white canvas, but keeps it all on the green? Similarly how did you colour in just the lines at 6:30? You didn't change any of your brush or layer settings

Well considering that those are vector graphics, I think that there is another point that is very important for game programmers, the system resources, the most simple is your shape, the less resources uses, so I think that its important to consider that for video games, especially for mobiles, because cell phones have lower capacities.

Could I used cell shaded characters in a rendered background?
@froggycolouring Жыл бұрын
If they’re meant to not stand out, than make them the same as the background so that they won’t draw attention away from the main focus of the painting. I’d also say rendering a background is a bit of a waste of time if its not a landscape drawing or something, make the background celled, so a rendered character would stand out more, also if you blur it to make the character stand out, your rendering will have gone to waste. I hope I helped :)
