A step by step guide to help you nail an important milestone in wing foil progression - the foiling gybe.
Starting off with practice on the beach, then on the surface of the water, and finally when flying on the foil for big style points and beach cred!
I hope this helps you nail it!

Hi. Thanks for making this video. I had to come back to say a huge thanks. A few sessions ago I trained myself with your hand grip method and in one session it clicked I went from zero gybes to 8/10 now with my front hand switch being automatic and only focus on the rear hand when completing the gybe. I ride with my front hand grip up all the time now. Regards and tacks next!

Outstanding Pete! Never realized how important that hand grip technique is.. I watched a boatload of wingfoil tip vids and this is the first I've heard of it..Wow!! The technique is subtle but so important. Good habits to aquire early before having to unlearn the bad ones.. I'm glad I found you.. . Thanks for helping us new wingers Pete!

Hi James, thank you so much for your kind words, they motivate me to do more of the same! It can be hard to find content which others haven't covered. I do my best to add something 'new' when I do.

Awesome tutorial, gets me loaded up with confidence to better my skills. I noticed when you gybe your feet do not change position at all, which just proves I can focus on the wing and my hips and ignore my feet for now.

Excellent job. This tutorial is the clearest and easiest to follow I have seen by far. Especially like the knuckle up knuckle down tip. I had thought of this and tried it but wasn't sure because I had never seen anyone else using it... until now :)

Very good presentation! One of the better ones, especially on the hand change and pulling the wing across the body. Many thanks!

Really like how you've broken down many of the critical steps. The analysis really helped me wrap my head around what to do. Just one question. Does "showing the wing to the wind" work in gusty conditions (20-30 knots) ? I tried this recently but didn't have much luck, and was getting blown off the board. I think the issue was largely due to 1) me not turning the board to the opposite direction fast enough. Thanks Pete for putting this together. Super useful !
@PeteJonesF6
@PeteJonesF6 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, thanks for the kind words :) With a wing of the correct size for the conditions, its should matter if its strong/gusty. At the start of the gybe you dont need to show it to the wind too much if you're already very powered - use your judgement. I'm not sure exactly what point in the gybe you're falling in? when you get to the point of turning the board to the opposite direction, the wing should have little power in it, as its likely you're only holding it one hand at this point. If you have both hands on the wing, just dont pull it in quite so much as you exit the turn

@@PeteJonesF6 Have only one wing (6.4 m2) as wind is typically in the 12-18 knot range, rarely 20-30 like that day. So it might have been easier on a smaller wing. Gonna try on a normal day, and adjust pressure by not sheeting in so much. Thanks again !

Do u recommend to practice first gibing off foil? I mean doing gibes taxiing and then once u get good at trying gibes on foil?
@PeteJonesF6
@PeteJonesF6 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the more you get the feel of the movement the better. As you progress it'll likely become half foiling half floating, before it fully clicks to foil right through

When you say “lower your weight” to help with balance, do you mean crouch down or go on a diet?
