So what many folks who comment but don't know the site : It's very hard to land at the lodge in Porterville in summer. So if you have to take a few collapses it might help you get down. No harm done & the pilot managed it well. When you attempt your best spiral dive technique & are pulling more G's than your body is comfortable with, and are going down at 8m/s but up at 4m/s, you will know that you are flying Porterville in summer.

No ammount of outside brake would help in this case since he was right above his wing when he lost all energy.
