Remember watching this series with my Dad when I was 10yrs old in New Zealand on tv saturday evenings. Brings back lots of memories nearly 40 years on.

Brilliant series I discovered by accident. Demonstrates how a great story can carry the drama. Modern day movies and TV can take a leaf out of that book. Thanks for the upload.

Their use of RC models in this series was far more believable and realistic than the CGI planes in the recent WWWI aviation movie Flyboys.

Thank you for posting this great series I only heard about for many years. It's my first time viewing the series. Great writing and story telling from The Great War. The last time my local PBS tv station featured a classic BBC tv show was All Creatures Great & Small in 2009.

I watched this series from start to finish in 1977/78 and it's as good now as it was 45 years ago. It was shown at the same time as Secret Army, another classic. I think Rik Mayall's Lord Flashheart was based on Cap'n Triggers.

The Lieutenant Conrad character was a more complex character than I thought at first: -he was the most competent observer and the best shot in the squadron; -he was awarded the Victoria Cross, most times awarded posthumously or literally costing an arm and a leg; However, in the end he turned out to be what nobody had expected: a true madman. Who in their sane mind would shoot their own pilot when they didn't have any piloting skills themselves? And even though the trainer version did have pilot controls in both seats, I believe that at this point in the series, only the pilot in the backseat had actual controls.

He probably was bluffing when it came to shooting Farmer. At least I'd like to think so.

I agree with the last comment. I appreciate the posting. I know so little about the Frst World War. The war to end all wars "The Great War"! The war that was an experiment to learn how flight could ans would be used in warfare.

Who on earth writes the subtitles. According to them we should be relieved that Alan was acquitted of 'coitus'. Imagine being found guilty and shot for 'coitus in the face of the enemy'.

It was better that the actual pilot should be in command of an aircraft (which was a matter of appointment, not rank) not-with-standing the superior rank of other crew members. In WW II Bomber Command operations, personality conflicts exacerbated by the inferior rank of the 'captain' vis-a-vis his crew was by no means remedied and sometimes led to similar problems.

Conrad and his miserble substitution for his own lack of manhood, or his desire for other's manhoods that he doesn't own honestly inrelation to his own intimacy. Why he takes it out on Farmer, who is, as cited, an ordinary man, natural, virile from the country and blacksmithing, one of the most virile professions there is, think Thor, for instance...To anyone reading this who hasn't read DH Lawrence's Lady Chatterly's Lover, written at the same time as these stories, I would recommend a very enjoyable and clear portrait of the issues, also re: society classes in British society at the time.
@madhukarjonathanminj2772 Жыл бұрын
I don't think Condrad is worried about his manhood, he's just a very classist and battle hardened officer.

I would like to know how many people died for Conrad’s VC.
