gogo music is classified as rap/r&n/ or urban music. this is how it is categorized on billboard and elsewhere. all kinds of sub-genres fall into this category. disco music is not global respectfully now. that doesn't mean it wasnt huge worldwide in the 70s.

as i said before if individual artists want to expand their influence, thats up to them. but go-go artists generally want to work , not sell records. theyre not concerned with royalties. theyre concerned with getting revenues from live shows. there is more than one way to make money in the music business. fame is a secondary concern for most artists. they want to make money. the greatest rappers and producers ever to rock a boombox can barely sell a record or get a gig nowadays. times change.

if go go music the was not the primary demand in the dc area, ''rare essence'' and ''chuck brown and the soul searchers'' wouldnt have performed live for 6 nights a week, every week for the last 30 years. if you buy a cd you spend 12 to 20 dollars once. i have been to see rare essence at least 15 times. chuck brown even more times and the least i've paid is 12 dollars, plus i've bought albums from both bands. these are two completely different animals. go-go went global in the 80s

go-go artists rap, sing, and invigorate audiences simultaneously. so rap outshines go-go in the studio, generally sampling other peoples music and doing punch-in, multi-take vocal recordings. but on stage, rap can't even come close to go-go. revenue generated from local performances is a go-go musicians bread and butter, that's why you have bands who've performed 6 nights a week for 30 years or more. few rappers can claim they've remained relevant and generated revenues for over 30 years

gogo music is made by bands. you don't see many labels promoting bands because they require a higher earnings percentage because they may have 13 or more musicians. its more feasible financially for record companies to work with indiividual artists or duos or trios, because they can pay out less and generate just as much or more royalties.the music business has changed drastically in the last 30-40 years. what you hear on the radio barely qualifies as music by comparison

rap music is studio based. go-go music is performance based. you simply fail to see the distinction. rap concerts regularly fail to deliver a performance that rivals studio recordings. if you go to see an rnb songstress perform, that songstress will sing entire songs. if you go to see a rap concert, rappers rarely complete a single sentence of any of their songs because even though theyre only speaking, they get winded, that's why they have hype men to complete the other half of every sentence

Yes I agree my angle is, Urban Go Go music is not recognized respectfully naitonally. Ask yourself this question, how come urban go go music is not the primary demand in the DMV listening area. Which is the birth place of this urban Go Go music. Or Go Go albums being sold massively ?
@982979829712 жыл бұрын
I agree and your right, but what is the "dc go go community" doing to take "dc go go" out of the dmv area. Just simple questions........

30 years of Urban Music. This is the best the area bands could do. No wonder go go didn't go national. Go go was established before rap and hip hop were established. Because the lack of leadership, funding and local support. It's were it is today, a local urban music that's not the primary demand in it's own market. It's secondary to Rap/Hip Hop in it's own market. What a waste............

Yes but Disco is known for "Disco" if Go Go is categorized as rap/r&b/ or urban music. Than it's not categorized as actual "dc go go music." New York is known for the birth of HIp Hop, Hip Hop is a demand played source of music in New York. Is "DC Go Go" played as much as Hip Hop in the city of New York if you defend that DC Go Go is global. ? And New York is just one city, would you like to do another city. Great go north of DC, just 30 miles. Baltimore is "DC Go Go" played mostly in that city?

Yes I'm not disagreeing nor am I posing an argument. If it did go global in the 80's how come it's not global "respectfully" now. How come it's not a catergory on the Bill Board for Go Go. ?
@982979829712 жыл бұрын
Go Go is not the primary listening music in it's own market. Let's look at the facts, when you go to clubs. louges, restaurant, parties ect ect in the DMV area. Is Go Go "primarly" played ? The answer is, no. It's secondary to Hip Hop/ R&B ect. I'm not arguing nor trying to starting any spats. I'm asking simple questions.
@executionerofgod12 жыл бұрын
disco is known for disco because it's largely a white thing. so is billboard magizine. all rap is not rythym and blues, but it's lumped into this category because it's largely produced by blacks. after a while companies like billboard came up with the title ''urban'' to cover all black sub-genres. go-go music is rhythym and blues but all r and b is not gogo. companies like general electric and rca own radio stations, and record lables, so they play what they want sold.
