Bill discusses how to keep small critters from wiping out your corn before it even gets started. He then puts up a Hot Zone Fence to keep deer out of his small corn plot until the time is right.

oh thank you for sharing, I couldn't believe an hour after I planted my corn bed, every single one was pulled out with the kernel missing! Crows were watching me I bet.

But there's no flag on those corn your spreading 🤣, Im just making lite of the 500+ sprouts the crows just pulled up in my brother's plot. We had to learn the hard way for sure, but now we know to make sure and counter the critters.

Why don't you have an affiliate link to market what you're advertising? I would think you could be taking commissions

The sand hill cranes do that where they eat the soft sprouted corn seed.

Fortunately, we don't have them here. When we lived in Michigan they were thick. Good luck. -Bill

Paul, I looked at them the other day and was not impressed. I am glad I didn't do more of them. The stem died on several of them and they were resprouting from the root line. I will get over and film it soon. -Bill

I realize it was hot, but I was hoping that you would go into more detail about the fence. I'm in the market for a solar electric fence and see that there are a lot with different acreages covered. Don't want to get one that is for too big of a plot but also don't want to get one that would be too weak. How do you figure your acres and fence needed?
@midwestwhitetailthechase5 жыл бұрын
Melvin, I didn't ever think that much. BTI has this Hot Zone system and an expansion kit to allow you to cover a bigger area (mine was just over an acre, roughly) so I just got that. If I was creating my own system from scratch I would have had to consider exactly what fencer to get. There is likely a formula for that available online. Just remember you are energizing three wires not just one. Good luck. -Bill

Going to burn off 3/4 of an acre in Madison County we sprayed. Do you think we'll need to fence off big n beasty? I've had some people say they'll leave it alone until later in the season but not sure with such high deer population.
@midwestwhitetailthechase5 жыл бұрын
I would not fence off Big N Beasty, at least not the first few years. They may eventually get where they are hitting it shortly after it comes up, but generally, they let it go until it gets some size. Good luck. -Bill
