So this is the new racket now. Like buying a cheap printer and very expensive ink. Winnebago Micro Minnie is $19K - $21K cost. Cheap price. But they get you on the upgrades which are standard elsewhere. It seems to me that these items should come standard with any Trailer or RV such as: Battery Disconnect switch. Why is this basic safety feature an extra expense? Solar Prep - adding a port hole in roof for future solar should not be an extra expense. Propane Heating System - this is standard in every motorhome. Why is this extra? I am building my own RV it seems. Cell phone charger - USB chargers should be standard. Wire or wireless makes little difference. Wifi prep - another absurd add on. This should be standard. Everyone needs Wifi. LED lighting on awning is a no brainer. Costs nothing to add one yourself. You can even go solar on the light fixture. Nothing to gain here. The only advantages of an Exterior Package are: Larger tires - doesn't cost much to upgrade and sell the old smaller ones or trade them in if new. I paid $750 for 7 brand new heavy duty truck tires for my RV. These should be cheaper. Are they returning the originals? They should charge you the difference only of about $200 or less. Heavy Duty Axles - The difference between Light Duty Axles and Heavy Duty Axles is $200. Obviously they will be keeping the original axles so you should deduct the cost for upgrade or have them returned to you for resale. What a rip off if they charge you the inflated dealer price and keep the old ones. Torsion Axles - Costs $200 - $300 retail. Eliminates Leaf Springs. Total cost of functional upgrades should be: $200 + $200 + $300 = $700. And this is at retail value. Anything more for an Exterior Package is not worth it. Do it yourself for much less.

@@TravelingRobert Okay. Listen up Winnebago. Elon Musk did the impossible every time. Made a rocket to be reusable. Made a Wall to power a house. Has cast over 700 satellites for his Starlink project that will completely change the value of land in the midwest. I do not want to hear or read it is too hard or you can't do it. If this is your response, you need to fire all your engineers and get new ones. 1) EVERY trailer you sell should always have full size fans in the ceilings for ventilation with a rain censor. There is no excuse for this. If I pay $250 as a consumer, I know you can get that item for about 1/5th of that price. It is an embarrassment to ship an RV with your logo with these computer fans. You make yourself look very cheap. 2) AC - if elon musk can do all that, you can fix the AC situation. Even a mini split option would reduce the power load requirements, provide virtually silent cooling and do a better job dropping the interior temps. Yup there are some challenges - you are the experts - make it happen captain. 3) Solar is the future. If you put a "solar package" into your RV's that cannot hold the power required to keep that thing off grid - it is wasted money. Run the thicker better wire. Prep it for 50 amps. Let people opt to say, okay - add the other 6 panels - when they are dealing with sales. 4) The frame/axles should hold more. Not everyone wants a 5th wheel. Many of us have good trucks and want a towable that can take more load. That is the only item we cannot replace on an RV. We can fix walls, replace the roof, but the frame/axles is a do or die design. 5) Soft Start - no excuse here. At the minimum, every AC should be equipped with a quality Soft Start unit. 6) Stop using high BTU heaters. 1400 watts MAX. Figure it out. Final thoughts. House prices are screaming out of control. What inspired me to buy a trailer is the insane housing costs. It is no longer attainable to own a home. I am not alone on this. There are millions just like me. I looked into alternatives. For the record, I do pretty well with my business, better than most. And even for me a house is a no go. When I look at the whole package of owning a home, in congested areas, associations telling me when I can poop, basically - I lose the desire to ever own a home again. Add to this being stationary. With the crazy economy, the left trying to keep everyone locked down - look at california, new york and even michigan - what are those people to do? Luckily I live in Florida. But the point is the economy shifts. If you own a home you may find yourself stuck trying to relocate. Part of Colorado experienced a boom in economy, so did Idaho For some people are escaping high cost states like california. For others the boomers are retiring. In today's world, living in an RV is quite attractive. Even if at a campground, the cost can be tolerable when opting for something not too extravagant. People are learning they can work remotely. This gives us options. I am doing my own upgrades on Jayco - yup a newbie buy - ugh. Anyway. The financing is one thing. But now I had to dish out at least $7k and still looking at another $7k to go. Most people can do payments. If you incorporate all those items into a trailer, the bank will finance it. Adding it at the dealer, well, it no longer is as easy. Most people cannot invest $7k into extras on a $25k -$35k rig. Financing wise, another $10k is not difficult to get approved once you are approved for lets say $35k. Get my drift? The auto industry realized this almost 2 decades after the aftermarket industry took off. 20 years to make a decision that - hmm... maybe we should put keyless entry on every vehicle (almost every), maybe we should make them difficult to steal. Maybe we should provide better comforts. 20 years. Are you also going to be late to the party like the automotive industry was? I will be looking to buy a larger RV in about a year or so, assuming the economy does not tank. If you read comments, people are addressing many of these concerns. For me it is between you (because of Robert) and Grand Design. Right now Grand Design is in the lead. They are built better. If I was running the designs, I would make sure to offer models that incorporate these items because they are non negotiable. Yeah - almost done. Here is where you need to come to work extra early and stay late - these models need to be affordable. I know I know... blah blah blah... You paying attention Adam? Affordable. No excuses. I promise you someone will take these items and more, to heart and come up with a the best RV's and you will be left in the dust. Maybe it will be me.
