Very informative. I own a 2020 Winnebago View 24V. I purchased it new and travel all over the Pacific NW, Arizona, Nevada & Montana. My exterior design is the same as the one shown in your video. I upgraded my batteries to 5 Lion Lithium. I also removed the flexible solar panels and added 680 watts of Zamp glass panels. I am using the victron system & Zantrex freedom. My generator is an Onan 3200. I am always worried about running out of power. I refuse to run the televisions and have not done so in three years. I do however use my micro at the least, once a day. I run my coffee maker once a day as well. Instead of running lights, I purchased multiple battery candles, solar lights for the nights. My big power draw is my air conditioner which runs all day as I am in Pahrump Nevada right now where it is over 100 F (I am plugged in). I love to save money by boon-docking but this heat makes that impossible. It’s 104 outside, I needed to plug in or drive back north. I chose to bite the bullet and stay south & pray for relief.

@@ttl_channel where can i find the power table

my son and i are having a argument on how to turn the inverter charger off this model to run on strict battery and solar charger to avoid the inverter drain as the power switch on our xantrex does seemed to be wired to operate as such

Good day! Great video. I have lived off grid in a number of situations (off grid house, RVs, Sailboats) and I too have a Winnebago View. I'd appreciate a copy of the Navion/View power consumption table when you get a chance. Thanks!

Thank you for doing the diligent work in putting this video together! I have the 2023 View so much of this is very applicable. I liked and subscribed. I am concerned also about the Sprinter battery if not driving as often or having long breaks between trips. It is consistently lower than the House battery. I think I’ll get the extra Solar panels and plug into that awkward spot where the shore power cable resides. Assuming I have it.
@ttl_channel6 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, the solar setup is only connected to the house batteries - not the chassis battery. I find that my chassis battery is fine for at least 2-3 weeks. If you will be parked longer, just use a trickle charger occasionally to top it up.

@@ttl_channel good point! My storage facility adds a lot for power to the RV. I now live in a wonderful condo but RV storage is not possible.

Excellent video! Detail explanation of all or many RV devices that many of us are concerned about. One question I would ask you given your understanding of battery use and given the choice of some of the newer model year Winnebago Views going all electric wth lithium battery/all electric coaches - (no genny or propane)- in your opinion would you go that way?
@ttl_channel7 ай бұрын
Good question. With the generator, it feels good to know that I have a backup, but in all honesty, I rarely use it. For the same weight/size (probably less), I could install an extra 10KWh of batteries and never have to worry! As for the powertrain, I guess as long as the range is there (300 miles minimum) and the ability to link to the house batteries as needed, I could go for that.

Does the Inverter switch need to be on when charging the batteries with the Generator???
@ttl_channel7 ай бұрын
No it does not. The inverter switch only needs to be on to provide 120V to the coach when no shore power or no generator.

@@ttl_channeldoes this app,y to when plugging into shore power as well?
@carlbeauregard17392 ай бұрын
I have a 2021 View and as I understand the engine alternator does not charge the house batteries. Is that correct? I have two AGM batteries for the coach.
@kentevaberthiaume5 ай бұрын
Fantastic video! I just had one question though for my 2022 Winnebago View. When plugging into shore power, does the inverter/converter need to be on or off? I have 500 W solar panels and they charge the battery well, however, when having electric available and plugging into short power I don’t see the power going to my battery. Do you have any suggestions?
@ttl_channel5 ай бұрын
That is strange. Your inverter should be a combination inverter/charger and should be charging your battery when connected (and no, the inverter does not need to be powered on). Maybe you have a faulty inverter or a bad connection?
@kentevaberthiaume5 ай бұрын
@@ttl_channel I agree it’s strange. Dealership said inverter switch had to be on to have shore power charge the battery. It was my understanding that shore power should bypass the battery all together and when disconnecting from shoe power the inverter/converter would kick in battery power. Am I mistaken? Appreciate the information you provide in your videos!

I am constantly worrying about battery management on my 2013 View. I still have lead acid batteries and no solar. My options for charging either involve fossil fuels (I am that guy) or shore grid power. I see all this hoopla over solar generators. I am curious why you would charge your solar generator with portable solar panels and then use the generator to charge your house batteries versus using your portable solar panels to charge your house batteries through your existing controller? I understand the solar generator gives you extra capacity but would you really need it if your (400 watt total)solar panels can replenish the daily draw down, given you have fairly decent exposure/favorable weather?
@ttl_channel11 ай бұрын
Maybe I did not explain my strategy very well. My first priority is always to charge the coach battery, using both the fixed roof solar and an additional portable panel as needed. The idea of the solar generator is to have a full "fuel can" for whenever my normal charging options (solar, shore power, driving) have not been sufficient.

Where was your factory DC/DC charger located? Are they the same in all years? I have a 2017 and wondering if I can just upgrade my battery to lithium without getting new DC/DC charger.
@ttl_channel7 ай бұрын
I believe it’s under the passenger seat, but have not accessed it as there was nothing to change/configure. In a 2020 model (2019 Sprinter chassis) it’s a Charge Mate Pro 40, which is lithium-compatible. No idea what is in a 2017.
