Hey guys your Revel is a beast and of course you have enough room in the back bed, when you sleep in tandem on top of each other. Hahahahaha I was thinking even when the bed is down it looks like you got plenty of room to sleep an old Canadian man and his dog. Just a thought. I see Ember isn’t much enjoying the lower 48 and the heat. So glad you have updated the lithium, it looks amazing in the bench seat. Let’s face it you guys have an incredible home like I said before it’s a beast. I never thought I could live in a van with my wife and our dog but you have proved that it is possible and comfortable. Awesome episode Jim and Cynthia! The Revel van looked great before, but those upgrades certainly take it to the next level. As you say living 24/7 in a tiny space, you have to make sure everything works for both of you and Ember. Ember looks so happy and content in her spot also. One item you didn’t touch on and maybe you have before, was any extra security features other than the standard ones. I know other van lifers have added additional security alarms and cameras after having some bad experiences. Maybe not something you want to disclose also and that’s understandable if you can’t. The Revel with all your added features looks like a beast, so maybe nobody’s gonna mess with it anyway. LoL. Thanks again always for sharing your videos and adventures with us. Happy Mother’s Day Cynthia. Peace and Calm to you all. 👍🏻😎🇨🇦

So great to see the Revel in the desert! Are those mesquite trees that you’re driving through in the beginning drone shots? I’m much more versed in Washington and Nevada fauna. The interesting thing about your fog lamps is that I’m surprised you don’t have amber lenses on them. Wouldn’t that help in the fog? Interesting that you added a second alternator. Most ambulances have two for all of their accessories and lights. The reason I find this interesting is that you haven’t added to your battery capacity significantly. Or perhaps you have and just haven’t told us about it yet? It’s so great to finally see Cynthia wearing the hat she’s had on the dash all this time. I guess it took getting into some decent sunlight for that to happen. 😂 Does your head get hot because it’s felt? Seems like it would. Anyway, it’s cool to see you wearing it. This is also the very first video I’ve ever heard Ember panting! Alaska dog in 98 degree heat must feel like melting, especially when there’s no lake for her to be a fish in. I will admit that of all the interior modifications you’ve made, the GLSS is by far, the coolest. It makes the van “livable” in my humble opinion, because there needs to be a real table in the van, not the horrible one that comes with the Revel. Interesting that you forgot about the upgrade to the door of the closet. Remember that you had to switch out that latch thing on top because it broke? So far, the one you replaced it with seems to have held up. I will admit that I LOVE the new shower curtain design! Are you going to be adding it to your Revel? I know I’d certainly want it if I had one. How long can your run your AC on high like that with your batteries before you have to start the Revel and recharge? Do you notice whether the solar panels actually help in the full sun or are they more of a gimmick? I’m actually curious. Question about the Car Play stereo. Are you able to install iOS apps? I’d want to install the Maps.me App for offline maps that are always up to date. Apple Maps rock, but they only work when you have cell service. Well you answered the battery question. 600 Ah of lithium is an impressive addition! But now I’m even more curious about the solar. Is it even worth it? Do you notice it actually charging? I love the addition of the roof deck, even if we’ll never see Jim up there, and the auxiliary fuel tank would be awesome for travel in places where gas stations are sparse. Also, what about the wool insulation you’ve added regarding noise dampening? You’d figure it’d be moderately improved, but do you see an improvement in noise reduction? I wish I could get into something like that, but your Revel as it sits is valued approximately at $250,000. That’s far beyond the reach of a humble state employee who barely scrapes by. It’s one hell of a dream, and I’m happy you two are able to live it. There are many of us who simply can’t afford it. I’ll live vicariously through you two. Hope you’re having an awesome time down south!
@WingsandWheelsAlaska3 жыл бұрын
You got the trees correct it is a form of mesquite. Cynthia does where the hat on occasion we just don't always film it lol. I think the GLSS was probably the most important mod in the van. Second would probably be our Havelock wool. We felt that we wanted to keep this one shorter and not talk about the small things over and over and we really spent a good amount of time talking about our insulation over the last two years lol. We do like that shower curtain. We may find a way to add it before we head back North. CAV has really made some awesome products. As far as solar goes... there honestly is not enough roof space on the 19' van to make it a viable only source of power. The lithium bank is so huge it would take an entire day to refill it. That is why we are exploring a different roof deck to put up there and drop down to one panel to keep a trickle going but still have a roof we can use. Not sure what we will chose to do yet. The wool definitely helps with the road noise but also helps keep the van cool in the heat down here. Have a great week Brian.

Jim..you really could ld have used the old ladder, they are usually tested 3 times the load rating...besides a rickety ladder is fun lol. I do agree the new ladder is so so much nicer . Have you ever thought of adding a wind turbine, they have various styles, Fold it down when your driving, Raise it up when parked. ( or I suppose you could keep it up while driving LOL). It will add to your power generation :) I always believe in multiple backups. ( if possible). Glad you’re all staying safe and having fun :). Live confidently and peacefully

It is always so great to see how much you enjoy your van/upgrades - and each other! You’re inspiring me to get back on track readying my van now for winter around Lake Superior. I’m hunting for a shop to do the Van Compass 4.3 (should just take a trip to their shop) and also hope to move the Espar into the engine bay with a matching exchanger. I totally agree on the Revel/Sprinter 4x4 being a superb foundation for customizations, so much better for me than starting from scratch. Thank you for all your tips!
@WingsandWheelsAlaska3 жыл бұрын
Hi Aanders. Rixens highly recommended not moving the ESPAR into the engine bay due to issues that can occur from the fuel line. They stated the best place to move it is to the battery box where it is closer to your fuel tank and power system. Sounds like you are enjoying your van! Safe Travels!

Nice summary of the upgrades. You guys must not have a $200,000 Van have you added up how much you have paid for all these upgrades. I think I'll wait one more year before upgrading the batteries on my 2019, sun is good here and batteries seem to be full all the time. Roam Rig $18,000 up grade is top on my to do lists. Next winter when you are up north very interested to see how much all this stuff helps you. Lovely Van.

Hi Jon. We are at around 160k all in. We are interested to see how well the roamrig holds up through the winter also. Kind of a test. Our AGMs were fine during summer and even when we crossed into Cali during this trip. Before that we were seeing power loss during the winter (not enough to freak us out by any means). We would wake up after using the heat all night and need to turn on the engine to make coffee. We will see how the lithium holds up :).

Looking great with the mods. But do you ever get the side ladder snagged on brush or miss read the width of the van? If I remember, you guys are bikers. Ever consider a light weight box trailer especially now that you’ve turned the garage into a fantastic lounge area? Finally, FYI : you can’t keep cold out, you can only keep heat in (lol). Great travels.
@WingsandWheelsAlaska3 жыл бұрын
We have plowed through the brush a few times :). Check out our knik glacier video from This winter lol. We are on the fence right now on whether we want to reduce our flexibility of travel to add a trailer for the motorcycles or not which is why we haven’t done it yet. We like being small and nimble right now to get to the places we like to go. Yes we could use the bikes to get to those places and use the Revel as a base camp but that is why we are on the fence. We have grown comfortable just traveling in the Revel 😂

Good morning. We had three AGM Lead Acid batteries previously. The AGMs were located under the van and they held up well but we were starting to notice the impacts of the cold on the batteries.

Basic maintenance question ... what's your two cents worth on oil changes? I know there's plenty of opinions out there. I have the same van. Service A was complete when I bought it used. Wondering if I should really wait until Service B or do an oil change before then. Thanks in advance! Your channel has been invaluable since we started thinking about buying this van. We love it! And want to take the best care we can.

Hi Guys, do you have solar panels and if so how many watts. Thanks for the update.

We have two 100 Watt Panels up on the roof. The panels help to maintain things but the second alternator is our primary means of charging the lithium.

In a previous video you mentioned improving the bed by using 7" of memory foam. Do you use the memory foam on top of the mattress or did you remove the mattress? If you are using it on top of the mattress, assume you must store it elsewhere. Also, would like to know the maker of the memory foam you selected. Love your videos -- we've made so many changes based on your recommendations.

We are considering Roamrig electrical system for our Revel. Which system did you install? What is the typical price tag? I like the idea that it fits within the bench seat.
@WingsandWheelsAlaska3 жыл бұрын
Hi Randy. Aaron from Roamrig does a consultation with you to ensure you are buying the proper stage for your typical use. He really wants to make sure you get waht you need without overspending on something you will never use. They list all of their prices on their website and that includes installation. We have been very impressed by it so far and are going to be doing some stress tests on it in both summer and winter :)

Still happy with the Van Compass upgrade? VC6.3? Have you noticed any power or speed loss with the larger tires? I'm still vacillating between the comparable VC or AO RIP upgrades......maybe it's good they are all about 4 months away from delivery :) Safe travels!
@WingsandWheelsAlaska3 жыл бұрын
We are very happy with Van Compass. We would love to do a comparison between VC and Agile at some point. Once we find someone with the other suspension we will find a way to do it. Most of the revel owners we know are either stock or have VC. We don't have any speed or power loss but our speedo is about 5-7 mph off depending how fast we are going.
@larryheiny52873 жыл бұрын
@@WingsandWheelsAlaska John from Owl Vans I think has the AO!! PS-Mercedes, qualified MB/Freightliner mechanics and (maybe) some Discount tire places can adjust the computer so that the Speedometer is correct. Although in Arizona there are some potential legal/title issues if the mileage has to be "zeroed out" I've been warned. Again, safe travels. and PSS-hope you guys have southern Utah and Norther AZ on your future trip plans. You'd enjoy the area I think. Thanks again.

Great review thanks. Serious question 're Mercedes and diesel service repairs. Just watched a slipping off power steering hose. Dealers..not leaking no fix.takes thirty minutes and better clamp. Seems alot of these issues. Generally very expensive to repair,maintain. What are your thoughts?? Thanks.
@WingsandWheelsAlaska3 жыл бұрын
Hi Len. Great questions. The Power steering hose is a well known issue and there is a recall for that to be fixed which is simply replacing a clamp. We did that last year ourselves before the recall but you still have to check it and make sure it is tight or the new clamps will eventually pop off also. Maintenance hasn’t been that bad since you do it at 20k intervals. Runs around 1k depending where you go but it’s not like you need to do it multiple times a year. Overall we have been happy with the Mercedes build.

Great review of the van inside and out and the upgrades/changes. How long can you run the a/c for Ember with out starting the Revel? We have our AussieDoodle that insists on joining us in our 58" wide bed in the 5th wheel but there is also an extra few inches on half of one side that was sort of converted to bedding. I'm assuming that Ember is a good girl like our old girl did and generally stayed in her own space?
@WingsandWheelsAlaska3 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael. so far we have run it around a 6 hour stretch. We will be doing some stress tests on it soon though. Ember does stay on the bench pretty much all the time. Sometimes she lays on the floor in the back but not very often. She has never been up on our bed so she doesn't know what it is like lol.

How have you guys been doing with fuel? Have you ever come close to running out and if so have you thought about adding an auxiliary tank? And do you know if they make an auxiliary tank for your van?
@WingsandWheelsAlaska3 жыл бұрын
Good morning Edward. We have not had any issues with fuel. We do have an auxiliary tank at the bottom of our to do list but that is for our future plans and is very low priority since we haven’t had any fuel issues. Agile Off-road does offer an auxiliary fuel tank for the Revel. There are definitely other upgrades that take priority over the fuel tank for sure. Great question!

Curious what a "city fill" is? Water? Why better inside?
@WingsandWheelsAlaska3 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian. I wouldn’t say better inside however, inside makes since because most people with these vans spend most of their time boondocking so having less things on the exterior making us look like campers is better if that makes sense. If you prefer campgrounds then outside is better of course.
