Nicely done with the video and the modifications. We bought a 2021 24D and soon realized it was a mistake. The total GVWR for the MBZ Sprinter chassis is 11,030 lbs and after the weight of the motorhome it leaves a OCCC or Occupant and Cargo Carrying Capacity of only 886 lbs and that is the total of the weight of my wife and I and our food and clothing and camping items and fresh water and black water. The fresh water, black water, and gray water tank have a total capacity of 112 gallons but if they were all full having a driver inside the RV would put it past the OCCC for the Navion. The advice is to have the tanks empty and stay at campgrounds with water and septic for each RV. What we should have bought was a Class C motorhome that uses the Ford E450 cab chassis which has a GVWR of 14,500 lbs for a gain of 3,470 lbs of load capacity over the Mercedes Sprinter. The truth is that the Mercedes Sprinter 3500 cab chassis is ill suited for a very heavy motorhome like the Navion or the View from Winnebago.
@rvlifediy
@rvlifediy 2 жыл бұрын
I agree that is one big weakness of the Sprinter RV conversions. Your OCCC seemed like one of the worst. Mine is not much better @1030 pounds. I removed every accessory including the ladder, curtains, extra table and post and about an additional 75 pounds of stuff I didn't need. It still lacks a good usable OCCC. I'm not sure why the manufacturers don't use the sprinter 4500 cab chassis. It's the same frame with added leaf springs. Seems like even the same axles and tires but 1000 more gvwr rating. Still not as good as the E450 but better than the 3500.

You should be mindful of your GVWR. We looked at a Winnebago Class C and it had a GVWR of less than 1000 pounds. That includes fuel, water, butts, and stuff. I think the fuel tank on the Sprinter is 25 gallons and if you have 60 gallons of water that’s almost 700 pounds. Two adults and two growing kiddos plus all that gear and you’re probably getting close. There should be a yellow sticker that shows the GVWR and the CCC. Look at that and then go to a CAT Scales at a truck stop and find out. The last thing you want to do is trash your engine and/or transmission as it would cost more than a new car to replace. This was a showstopper for us when we were looking at a new RV a few years ago. I do like what you’ve done here and I hope you enjoy your RV for many years.

Yes the carrying capacity is a challenge on all sprinter class Cs. They need to make it on the 4500 sprinter chassis.

You have by far the best Winnebago View videos on KZbin! I saw the extra fresh water tank and wondered how you are doing against the max CCC of the View. I think the max is around 1100 pounds and that water would be over 200 pounds by itself.
@rvlifediy
@rvlifediy 10 ай бұрын
You have to travel light. Either full the tank at the campground or if boondocking leave things behind. I did however remove every accessory that came with the View like the spare table and legs, sink covers, curtains, booster seats, microwave accessories, etc. I also removed about 100 pounds of extra cabling/wiring throughout the rv and metal panels in the wetbay. Still a challenge with occc regardless.

Blinds in the cooking area can't be flammable. That's why they're like that.
@rvlifediy
@rvlifediy 2 жыл бұрын
That is true, and every once in a while, a salesperson walk through will say that. But they do make shades that are flame retardant and approved. Other models have different shades if you look really close. Even Winnebago has different shades in the dual pane windows. The aluminum mini blinds however are the cheapest way to do it, and likely why they do it. They don't use those on any of the higher end motorhomes.

I've been told that the blind in the kitchen is done like that per code. Those MTD shades can light up quick if there was a grease fire...❤‍🔥🔥
@rvlifediy
@rvlifediy Жыл бұрын
Yes I think that's right. But it can be done different also. You won't find any of those aluminum blinds on a higher end RV or even many cheaper ones or same competition as the View. My current has a foldable backsplash with mcd shade behind it, or they could install a shade with class A fire rating or for the View/Navion, the acrylic windows have a fabric integrated shade, but they shifted the window slightly left so it's not immediately behind the burner. Many ways to do it but ultimately up to the RV builder. Not sure why they don't do it for the View/Navion with such a high price point. These details are hard to notice when in purchase mode.

My solution to the bathroom door rattles is a six foot long pipe insulation that is slit lengthways which you can wrap around the whole length of the door. I especially like your suggestion to disconnect the center speaker. Radio sounds much better.

I've heard the acrylic dual pane windows scratch really easily and can get permanent haze...they're also over a foot smaller on each side of the coach...I purposely sought out a unit with the glass windows for those reasons.

Yes the acrylic scratches and won't last as long. That is actually the same reason I went with the glass sliders because I live in the desert and the sun is brutal on any types of plastic. My previous rv has dual pane glass sliders which was nice.

Hey, I really like the mods you have done and are anticipating. We also have a Navion 24D on order (since August '21). Hopefully we'll see it in April / May. The one mod that I really appreciate is the insulation of the wet bay. We will want to run our 24D up to Denver to see our grandkids summer and winter. Heck, here in Oklahoma the winter time is usually the best time to camp, if you can deal with sub freezing temperatures at night. This will be our 4th motorhome (9th RV!) and every one requires modifications to make it the way we think it should operate. Yours are some of the best I've seen. Thanks for sharing!
@rvlifediy
@rvlifediy 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Hope you enjoy your 24D. For the wetbay, I couldn't explain all in the video, but it was major amount of work. I actually took out the entire shower during warranty time due to a major leak. Winnebago used the wrong fittings at the pex to hose connections. Hope they changed the fittings for your 2022 model. I reported it to the corporate office. I cut out all the original plumbing, raised, and replaced so the insulation panel could fit. You may find an easier method, but check your wet bay and look up, and you will see that all the plumbing pipes connect at that location, and are all exposed (hidden by the panel). I ripped mine out so I could also install my macerator. If the macerator wasn't installed, insulating the bay itself would have been easier. Enjoy your 24D and thanks for watching. If I was in Denver, I would also insulate the gray and black tanks. That job wouldn't be that bad.

If you don't want to make new screw holes into the cabinet, you can use VHB Tape. Let the tape set (cure) for 3 days with the mount only, and than add the extinguisher. Otherwise the tape can fail due to the weight. Or just use screws. The original location was always rubbing on the ladder as well.

Great video and mods. Strongly considering this model. I do not think you are missing out on anything by not adding the dual pane windows. In this model the dual pane units are plastic and much smaller than the standard single pane glass units. I think the dual panes would offer little benefit in terms of insulation value and you give up a lot of natural light with the smaller dual panes.
@rvlifediy
@rvlifediy 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. The plastic dual pane was my concern living in the desert, and I opted not to get them. I've seen the same windows in ocean boats, and all the European RV's so there must be something good about them. Having dual pane in my other RV's (glass) though, it does make a big difference in heating cooling, and sound travel. I know the R value is practically nothing, but something about dual pane makes a big difference. The single pane that Winnebago uses in this model is crap though and other manufacturers use a better window. Good luck you your search. I enjoy the View even with all the items I can complain about. Thanks for watching.

I have a couple of questions. How comfortable is the couch? Also, what you know today about your Winnebago View 24D, would you still purchase one today? I like the mods you did. Thanks for sharing. I will watch your other outside video. One last thing - given the price point of this RV, and I don't understand why Winnebago went cheap on the hinges, cabinet openers, and the mini blinds. You'd think paying $170K-$150K for a brand new RV at that price point they would have given you products that are premium quality.
@rvlifediy
@rvlifediy 2 жыл бұрын
Those are some tough questions. The couch is just OK. All the cushions at the couch and Dinette could use a heavier dense foam. The TV position does not work for the couch. I think some of the components use is not due to being cheap. Whoever planned it, didn't make enough effort in procurement. You can get similar items for the same cost. As for if I would buy again, that is a tough one. Time is short in life so yes I would buy again. If I didn't need as much space, I would have bought a Leisure Travel Van but I need the space. When I purchase my next RV, I would seriously consider others first but still look at Winnebago after. Winnebago's price point does not match the qualityexpected. Quality is not any better than other production coaches even though i hear people say its better all the time. I do like their exterior design the best though.

Hello, the rug in the video is 20 inches by 81 inches, but the original size was larger that my wife cut down so it fits perfect when the slide is in without having to fold it. We have another one that is 29.5 x 72.5. The smaller one in the video doesn't cover a good portion of the floor, so if you need more coverage it will be small. But you will have to put them away when the slide is in unless they are super thin to fit under the slideout blocking.

Yes the pocket door rattles like crazy. I put a piece of hard foam on the guide at the bottom, as well as some foam up on the top. It helps with the rattle, and now is barely noticeable but still rattles on some occasions. To do it right, you would have to remove the door and install a guide on the door latch rod. The rod that goes up into the track to keep the door open or closed (latched) is what rattles. It can be fixed. Winnebago should do it at the factory but who knows if they ever will. It's not an overly complex fix, but the manufacturer should be the ones doing it. Good luck on your 2022.

Yes it's much easier to zip around, and we do go to many places we haven't before. I personally don't even use a toad anymore. Taking a little break from towing a car for a while.

any issues with winterization Is it difficult ?

Winterizing is really simple. There is a winterize hose in the wetbay and the truma water heater is really simple to drain. The manual has a good explanation as well as a good video from Lichtsinn RV on youtube.

Their MSRP is shown on their website. Some people are able to negotiate 20-30% off but not sure with these current pandemic prices. It seems they are charging more than they used to.

Many of your complaints are from your lack of engineering experience. There are good reasons why certain things are the way they are.

Didn't realize I was whining but then again, it was one of my earlier videos and just like today, hardly know how to video lol. Not sure I can agree with lack of engineering. How many decades of experience do you need before you can pass the lack of? Is there anything specific you saw? I can always make a correction.

Not in my world lol. I remember my English teacher saying that one time. I should have listened to him better.

Correcting a stranger’s English is alot or even tons of rudeness.
