Your referring probably to the dancehall genre, which has been very popular in the States of late. GOT7 Never ever, KARD Don't Recall come to mind recently that have used dancehall roots. But yeah your right, i'm not too sure whether Koreans would gravitate towards the genre at all, but international fans LOVE it.

Yes, I'd have to agree it is a little overused whenever you listen to the charts now. But that goes with a number of other genres in the past as well, its gets pretty cyclic, its get popular, then it dips in popularity, then it gets popular again.

LooYee dancehall music and also Afrobeat is the current trend right now but only because of the tropical house boom 🌴 music producers are focused on exotic, tropical sounds plus when artist have MASSIVE hits pushing toward those sounds everyone follows the trend. Justin Bieber "sorry", Drake "One Dance", Rihanna "work", Sia "Cheap Thrills" all massive no.1 records following the similar beat patterns, even BTS jumped on the train and it got them their first no.1 record sadly the US ride these trends until it's completely dead, everyone gets sick to death and we move on to something else. It's actually most damaging to the Afro-carribean and reggaeton artist who use this sound 100% of their career bc the pop stars steal their sound then throw it in the trash to move on to "the next hot thing" when they say "Bitch I been doing this sound for 20 years before you came along and stole it"! They should be getting credit, not the pop stars.

This is more mohmbaton (idk if this is how you spell it sorry) beat than dancehall, i mean it could be a mixture . but i agree with it being a popular type of beat nowadays because of said group examples u used. and also it has a tiny bit of latin flavour (the beat) as well. i know KARD has been studying latin music a lot and some of the beats were created on this type of influence, which is why theyre so much fun to dance to.

As you said, tropical songs aren't that big in kr but because of its catchy tune, witty lyrics and many other things that made the song so good, the public actually loved it and is now very popular and is played and performed all over the country. Somehow the clean cut , gentleman image they had before is now change in more comfortable hip hop fun style. Thats probably why there was a sudden change of clothing and out of place car..... must be telling us that theyre going for a hip hop and fun style in the future...... xD. I would say not to knock this song yet, please don't forget, KARD, BTS and GOT7 all made songs with this type of beat that have become hits not only in Korea but internationally, and plus a lot of these beats were created in underground rather than mainstream music forums and gained popularity from being constantly replayed in clubs and on the street, you never know when something small will catch on and get turned into something huge (eg: fantastic baby, gangnam style, kpop even).
