I think Yoon purposely made the chorus SO-SO (yes pun intended 😂) solely for conveying the message of their song. As the lyrics and the emotions they showed in the video. They’re neither depressed or happy..they’re in between emotions and literally numb to both extremes. They’re stuck in that state of just being neutral or SOSO. However, all members are masking their indifference with saying they’re okay..but obviously in the MV you see they’re still hurting inside and vulnerable af. Insert Hoony’s nude scene..which represents emotionally being vulnerable, but on the outside he’s showing he’s tough or doesn’t care. The same with Yoon being suspended in the air...he’s floating in between the highest highs, but then you see him being chained up in between spikes representing the lowest of lows. Mino is in a crowded jail it seems and he’s obviously going through something..he’s frustrated and angry..doesn’t want to be comforted or talked to..but you see everybody is just bumping into him and paying no attention to him. Deep down..Mino wants to be comforted, but he’s being stepped upon and ignored. Jinwoo is falling from the sky with a burning car and you see the fear and shocked in his expression. He’s emotionally and physically crashing and burning like that car. But he’s just laying there numb to the pain and hurt...but he’s just out there living..even if he’s covering his pain with his brave face.

Agreed! The word the MV evokes for me is "melancholy," and the lyrics are part of it but I think it's the empty chorus that makes that feeling really hit home. The visuals make it extra powerful - Hoony's scene literally made me cry. He's surrounded by people, but he's completely unengaged and detached from them; they can't even see him. On the outside, he's going through the motions and no one is seeing what's really happening inside, and, for me, the nude scene is a reflection of that inward-facing loneliness and isolation. The very "meh" feeling to the chorus really sets the stage for the individual scenes and the combination hits me hard, on a personal level. I think the emotional feel of the song would've been drastically different if they'd gone another direction with the drop, and I'm so(so) glad they didn't!

And I'm glad they chose the nudity for a very sensitive and emotional effect rather than an erotic one. It made it very impactful, and went very well with the song.

i think the song is like building and building but it's like "no-drop" is the symbolism for the so-so feeling, it's like you're REALLY SAD but you tried to cry/didn't even cry and u only ends up tearing up but you don't cry and your mood ends up being just, "soso".

The song choices that you two were talking about, specifically the chorus, I think for the lyrics very well. They talk about not being happy or sad, just “so so”. And then how oftentimes certain emotional reactions are sort of expected, but that it’s fine to not react that way. And sometimes one is just in a mood and not expressing thing s that others expect. And then the chorus does exactly that. The verse builds and builds and builds, and then the chorus is just flat (not the best word for it, but sorta emotionally flat). I think it works really well and I really liked the song the first time I watched it without subtitles. Then I watched it with and liked it even more.

Since I heard the chorus in the trailer, I was expecting a dark song, so the part that shocked me was the first verse. It's so upbeat. But it's frantic like a person desperately pretending to be okay. Then the chorus hits and you feel their real internal emptiness. I love it so much...

@5:26 When I hear you say that the song repeats "trying trying" and "going back" and that every time it repeats, it adds something more and gets darker, I was thinking about how similar it is the way depression patients struggle in vain. That's what I went through when I was suffering depression. You try to get over it by trying to do work-out more regularly, meet friends and family more often, etc and you feel you have gotten much better at some point. But then that's the moment you fall and roll down to the hell like in the mythe of Sisyphus. And every time you fail, you lose hope, feel embarrassed and vulnerable like naked Hoony, and your hope gets dampened by darkness, which would get you into a deeper viscious cycle. That might be the world of SOSO. How dark, accurate, and uncomfortable truth! - Maybe that's the reason why this song and MV feel so artistic as the music and the theme match so perfectly and shed light on the deeper truth of human being.

What a piece of art. An emotion that never shows up displayed as a chorus that never drops. Each scene is powerfully portraying what depression is and looks like. Not really feeling down all the time but angry, empty, sad or not feeling anything at all... Just hanging on the "so so".

It's intentional. The lyrics say they're neither happy nor sad, just... meh. But it's more that they're so torn and emotionally exhausted from this break-up that they've reached a state of being numb... similar to when you're really depressed and you're just spent and want to lie in bed and forget the world exists. Mino touched on that in his part: don't touch me, why are you swearing (as in his friends) at her (the girl he broke up with) when that should be me? you're only making me feel worse. I think the build-up represents all those emotions and not being able to deal with them, but instead of exploding, the chorus just drops... like they broke. Even the ending chorus sounds more up-beat but the visuals show them either in a suspended state, separated from the world, asleep, or crushed and over-exposed. And also, when you're feeling that conflicted and someone asks how you're doing, what do you say? I'm fine. I'm okay. I'm so-so. But, really, you're not.

I loved this song a lot. Glad you guys did too! Should recomend to check the lyrics cuz it helps to make sense on the "frustation" that no drop causes. The "so so" feeling! I was also somewhat disappointed in the lack of a drop at first, I wanted it to go really hard, but the soft drop grew on me very quickly. I really think the chorus fits the "so so" mood, because it lacks any extreme whatsoever. After listening a few times, I found myself thinking that the chorus actually felt perfect in the context of the instrumental and the lyrics. This is one of my favorite comebacks recently. the drop, or lack thereof completely stopped my heart the first couple of times I heard it and I think its so genius bc it completely reflects the heme of not being in extreme emotional turmoil and also not being completely numb to everything. it builds like the emotions of someone whose bout to break down but ultimately drops in a way that reflects that person just kind of.....swallowing it all. Not exactly feeling this way or that, just sucky. god i love this song...

The upbeat of the verse and then the change up of the down beat for the So-So chorus perfectly conveys the feeling of the verses. So even if you haven't seen the video you feel the emotion. The feeling of feeling ok, upbeat, but not really ok, downbeat.

It has already been pointed out and I agree, the song's music goes perfectly with the lyrics, how it builds up then the chorus is kind of flat, the tapping, Jinwoo's part that sounds a little like a lullaby.. It's such a moving song.. And the MV is so artistic and beautiful to watch.. This, Fool and (empty) are my favorites from Winner. I also LOVE Really Really, Ah Yeah, Island.. They're so talented (music and lyrics wise), their voices are diverse, the MVs, always a masterpiece..

i was so there for this one. not only was the drop a subversion, they really commit to it! its not a trick, its not a tiny gimmick, its not understated, they sad bit lasts and builds in a consistently sad way, at the end when it required an extra level of intensity it was so clever to add the high-pitch electro because it just made the distance to the low drop feel enormous! at first i thought i wasnt going to like it cause the verse was too upbeat for the title, and then they went reminded me of my puny place in the universe lmao
