Desiree, That comment made me spew diet coke out of my nose... "Hard to find a Virgin in Key West." You guys are awsome. Congrats on winning the yacht race. Nice to see you have some confidence back in Atticus. Fair winds guys!

Proud of you guys. I remember watching the anxiety you had sailing in high traffic area off Cancun. When I watched that episode, I thought, "they need do to some racing." You did and it made you a lot more comfortable with boathandling, which is one of the best things to get from racing. Love to see the pride you have for the boat.

Ah man, this is the video I needed to watch today. The whole coronavirus has been such a bummer, and this really lifted my spirits. I'm trying to be patient finding my own boat and I really know we have to find what we want. I'll just know it when I find it. And better yet you'll have the pride to know you won that race from the ground up. From bones to glory, years in the making.

Congrats on the well deserved win. I have a handy little inspection camera, also known as borescope or endoscope, that hooks up to my android tablet. It was sent to me in a care package and has become a very welcome addition to my tool kit. It is possible to inspect inside the cooling system and other areas without taking too much apart.

Always fun to be in the winners circle. Nicely done. Your boats ketch rig is perfect for engineless maneuvering in tight quarters using the jib and mizzen. I’ve sailed my 31 ft. Sharpie for seventeen years with a similar setup and only use the engine for docking or getting out to open water. Anyway, stay safe and happy travels. Cheers!

Hi guys, Thiss has been one of the best utube videos that I have watched. You are so right about remembering that u are on a sail boat and be prepared to be able and confident to sail everywhere at all times. Fit a filter on the water intake and just check it on a regular basis would be my advice! You are both living my dream, I want to head off over the horizon soon, just don’t have things organised yet but watching you guys is the next best thing and your vids are great. Love you both to bits and will become a patron ASAP. Fair sailing and happy days, Captain Ray, Kerry, Ireland.

It's not that Atticus is small, its that everyone buys huge boats these days. I sailed my family of four all over the Caribbean on a 28 ' Pearson. An allied seawind is a sweet boat, I would love to have one.

I started from episode 1 when you were just looking for boats and narrowed it down. Anyway, I’d be proud not if the boat you bought being nimble, but the love you put in paying off. It’s properly maintained and properly captained with an excellent crew.

Check the exhaust system too. A restricted outfolw will cause overheating too. " feel, touch..." the engine when the gauge reads hot, maybe, but doubtful the gauge could be bad or a bad wire (if electronic ) connection will give an incorrect read out. Love the engine philosophy, but you cant sail anywhere without at least a breeze and then there is current. Dude/ dudette y'all have a real treasure. Dont waste any more thought on the size of Atticus. Do with her what she was designed to do and she will grant you more of what I saw in this video... your smiles were much larger than 30 feet.

Congratulations to my favorite Bud's on the BIG WIN in ATTICUS!!!! Remove the negativity from your current video, The two of you have so much talent, and don't be down on ATTICUS because of her/ his size. Just remember that sweet little boat has already conquered the Atlantic, and since then you have put a lot of hard work into that boat during the many past years. It will be so fantastic to see you back sailing the Seas and experiencing your dreams with us. My Best Friends daughter went to Belize on her honeymoon, and really loved the place. I really hope you follow your dreams while your still young, Health problems later in life can crush a persons dreams, like mine. I still dream of buying a boat that I can live on during the winter months off the South Florida Coast in the Caribbean. Islands. It would have to be a power boat so I can get back to the states for Doctor stuff every 90 days. I wish good winds and gentle seas to make all your passages safe!!!

Every time you start the motor look out the back for water flow and consistant pumping , I have the same motor and they are good , we put a intake filter in so you can see the water in the filter , check your impeller as a blade may have sheered and clogging the pipe or blocking the pump , good luck ,

It seems like the exact same engine that's in my boat, a Beta BD722 20hp. Great little gem, but what happened to me is that since the oil fill cap and the coolant cap are so close next to each other I ended up putting engine oil in the coolant system. That's not very helpfull in cooling the engine. So i had the same problems you guys described, over heating. Maybe in the past something simular happened with your engine as welk. I suggest to flush the cooling system a couple of times. I have done this and ever since never had a overheating any more. Good luck with your adventures ! Best regards, Frans

Great racing. I too have had engine anxieties because with no wind, it's hard to get in and out. I've learn to sail to our mooring but the wind has to be right. Too mush or too little makes it tough. Great video and always fun to watch you two. Can't wait for the next one.

I’m so glad a sailing channel has finally come to the conclusion that engines are auxiliary power and the sails are what drive the boat. Too many channels and boats rely on their engines far too much. Good on ya. There are sailors out there after all.
@scottwatson28086 жыл бұрын
Cooper VonAchen Easy there, do you actually have a relatively heavy displacement boat or a boat at all? Tried sailing in no wind? Tried sailing through narrow passages against wind and tide with no sea room to tack? A reliable engine is an absolute must on any boat, as important on a sailboat as any other. Its nice to sail as much as possible but there are lots of places and times when you cannot

My brother and I got our inoculations at a county health office in the ghetto, before we went on a trip to Costa Rica in the rainy season. We got a message while there that they hadn't read our questionnaire, where we said we were actually going to an area with malaria, so they gave us a placebo. We had no alternative but to drink booze and tonics constantly for the quinine, hah. Lookin' fit guys, you are ready for some adventure!

Also take the caps of the heat exchanger and rod the filter tubes out as they block , there are no hero’s with no motor you need it for power , you need it to get out of trouble , fix it I do thousands of miles a year and can sail into anchorages and out of them. But when the wind changes to blowing into an anchorage try and tack out It not easy ,the under toe pushes you back Fix it good luck

Perhaps periodic use of the "SeaFlush" system w/Barnacle Buster chemicals might also help. You are exactly right about the engine being the auxiliary propulsion system. James Baldwin (Atom Voyages) sailed from Ft. Lauderdale to China, on a Pearson 28, in the mid-80's on his 2nd circumnavigation, w/o and engine. He was towed thru the Panama Canal by some generous folks. I prefer an A30, for myself. Abandon Comfort sold their HR35 and downsized to a Falmouth 22 Cutter that they got for 10k...

Great job, Captain, crew, and boat! I've often wondered while watching various and sundry sailing videos, why so many motor so much. I mean, they're on sailboats, yet some seem to motor around as much, or more, than they actually sail. I fairly well know it's a rhetorical question. It's just easier to drive a motorboat than it is to sail a sailboat, so human nature dictates they run their sailboat as a motor boat at the least provocation. It's just nice to hear you talk about sailing as a sailor should. At least that's my uncalled for and unqualified opinion!

I think its fabulous that you guys are showing that you can live and cruise from a small boat - and proving that you don't need to buy new. Atticus' rebuild was uber-comprehensive and shows your combined skills. We did an Atlantic circuit in 2012 on a much bigger boat and now I plan for us going again but this time with our 1972 30-footer. I think you have a little more space than we have (no V-berth) and persuading my Admiral (the wife) that our little boat is ocean-capable is going to be tough but there are real advantages - cost and manageability as starters. Do you have reservations about crossing the Atlantic / Pacific in Atticus? Concerns for me are water and food sufficient for the trip - fuel not so much as our electrical demands are pretty minimal. Any thoughts?
