Even then, 99% sounds like certainty, but 1 in a 100 times you still wouldn't win. Next time you ask him questions please ask about the picking of how many spins you get in a bonus. Every time you get one you just pick a higher number of spins thinking your odds will be better with more spins. I think it's a specific one will have a better pay out and you have to pick the right one to get the best payout. (for example, if while on dancing drums you pick 3 spins every time or 12 spins every time instead of picking the one you hope has the biggest win that specific time.) I think the payout for each one is predetermined and one might pay just $30 while another might pay $3,000 just a matter of picking the right one (number of spins) rather than picking the most spins or the least spins. I think that maybe I can help you out with this one, the only thing that changes is the multiplier. The percentage is still the same. If the casino sets it at 92% for example picking three spins versus 12 spins isn't going to increase or decrease that 92% return. The only thing that changes is the multiplier for whatever amount of money you're going to win. Usually, the higher the number of spins, the lower the multiplier. The only time I have seen something like what you were talking about, is on some specific themes. For example Konami makes a couple of games that usually let you pick a flat win amount, or let's you try to spin to see if you would get something higher. This is usually player preference, because some people would rather just take the flat winnings if it's high enough instead of risking playing and even though you might have a decent amount of spins, getting a lower amount. I hope this helps, and if you're wondering where I get my information from, I am a programmer for one of the slot manufacturers. I started off as a slot technician and now after getting my degree and many years in the industry, I work as a programmer for a slot machine manufacturer.

To answer the question of bonuses of being PRE determined the answer is yes. I hit a bonus of 400 on a penny machine and the machine literally shut off on the last spin, it took five minutes to reboot and the bonus started all over again with the same exact results.

Regarding multi-denoms: My understanding is a machine is set at a certain percentage, not multiple ones. Therefore, a .25, .50 & $1 machine is likely to be set at the lowest demon, .25. Same with the $1, $5 & $10 variety. It is probably set at the lowest payout level of $1. Better to play a machine with a fixed denom were possible to avoid confusion.

I've played the lightning machines a lot, high roller and regular and my experience is that it's better to switch between all denominations and values. I've also hit majors back to back on 50 cents and seen the major sit there for 4 days without hitting, that's a sucker machine, play it but if it doesn't hit fairly quickly go play a different one. I always use my card and go during the week or early on the weekends so you can jump around to different machines, you'll put 50 bucks in one and nothing and then hit on the first spin on the one next to it.

Brian, great interview with awesome questions. One thing you have to think about on your bonus spin/pick (of lines & spins). Yes you will have more spins, but not as many lines. Do more lines make up for less spins is the question. Say 6x5 and you retrigger by hitting line 1, 6, 5. You would have missed the retrigger with the more spins and less lines. Just something to think about and the way we approach the bonus. Let me know your thoughts.

Time of day does matter. It may not matter based on physical time such as the slots pay more at 1 pm than they do at 4am. It's more volume of people. Payouts are set at the very basic level of making money. Wether they use RNG, to distribute the payouts it doesn't matter..basically more people playing slots = more jackpots. More people at 1 pm than 4 am.

I was at a casino in Blackhawk Co. a few years ago and they were putting in a Walking dead machine. I was the very first player on it and within the first few spins, I hat a $500.00 jackpot. I assumed it was because it was brand new, maybe not tho??? In Vegas this past week, I was at a buffalo gold and hit 150.00, I cashed out and came right back and hit immediately another couple of hundred more, I cashed out and came back and hit another one immediately. I don't think I agree with the time part. Specifically time of day not necessarily time of week although I guess that could be related. My point is (in my opinion and experience) the busier the casino and the more people are playing, the more I win. It is amazing how I can just keep killing it but then when the casino starts clearing out it is like someone flipped a switch and I don't win anything. I mean it actually makes sense if you think about it, why would they pay out a lot if they are not bringing much in. Also it seems like a liability in a way if they don't control it. Just my opinion tho...

The casino has no control over when players get paid. There's no magic button that can be pressed or switch that can be flipped that the casino uses to make the machines pay out more or more often. If you think about it from a math perspective, because more people are playing that means that the machines are going to hit more often or from the perspective of the player sooner. This isn't because the switch was flipped, but simply because more rounds are being played on the machine so there's a higher likelihood that the jackpot will be hit. To put this another way, there's a higher likelihood of a player hitting a jackpot if he or she plays a thousand games versus simply playing two. Since it's all random and probability, probability states that the more you try something the more chances you have of succeeding. I hope that makes sense.

Playing a higher bet won't change the payout percentage but it will change the hit percentage. He didn't mention a slot machine RNG has 2 functions, one is payout percentage and one is hit percentage. A machine can't hit the same amount of times on a higher bet because the payouts will be higher. The overall payout is an average of both these percentages.

Interesting info on the Class II machines. The Class II machines here in Oklahoma are all manufactured by VGT. Since Aristocrat bought VGT, I have noticed the casinos are getting new games in that have the look of "Aristocrat-style" games but they have the Bingo card on them. After watching this video, I can surmise that the casinos prefer the Class II games so they don't have to share revenue and Aristocrat can probably get more of their machines on the gaming floor if they make them Class II. :)

You almost got everything right... When it comes to bonuses where you can pick a number of spins, the average win from each option will be the same. The thing that does change I the volatility / variance (as was mentioned). So you might get more spins if you pick the 15 spins, but on average you'll win the same amount as if you had picked 3 spins. Also the question with regards to the bet size giving the same outcome is not necessarily true. It depends whether the game is the same at all bet sizes... For most games this is true but it's also possible in some games that they may use different reel bands at different stakes meaning that while the RNG might have given the same numbers, the outcome may not have been the same :)

Are new machines set to pay higher in the first few months? I used to bowl w a slot tech that said, "They set the new machines to hit more, to help players fall in love with the machine and then they will keep coming back to it (even when they set it back to normal)". In all the casinos I have worked in, I have never seen anybody do that, however it could be possible. As long as they don't go under the legal limit, casinos are free to set the machines to whatever percentage they want. Believe it or not though most casinos refrain from changing the percentage often because hardcore slot machine players can actually notice this and it could lead to a drop in revenue from players choosing not to play at casinos that constantly adjust their payback percentage.

Ok. If the RNG stays the same no matter how much you bet, then how does it change depending on the domination played for the payback percentage? It can't be the same RNG for 1¢ versus $10 and still maintain proper payback percentage. How does that work when you change the amount you bet?

Good info...I really believed the players card thing. Hmm Listening to a Las Vegas local talking about it, he thinks he knows for sure by living through times before the cards that now the casinos cut locals chances more by using one. He wasn't bitter, just very knowledgeable. So he never does. And add "toucher" to the list

I play in Oklahoma in Indian casinos. I absolutely disagree that the time of day doesn’t make a difference. At the casino I play at, every single night the slots take off from 11:00-1:00, then shut off from 1:00-3:00am, then take back off from 3:00-5:00am. If you play in our casinos long enough you learn how and when the machines play. There are definitely machines that pay out more than others.

I was curious about my players card they gave me complimentary rooms and I was thinking when I use my card they were trying to get the money back for the rooms or something. But you answered that I won't be scared to put my card in now

hey here in canada they turn them off 3am. i noticed the land based casinos here real (not online)., are always best after midnight. pretty convenient hey.
