What an awesome breakdown. Been thinking of jumping into Vanguard Tyranids, and very much enjoyed this!

Excellent video Davey. Exactly what i needed, I've been having a terrible time with Vanguard. Those lists were very interesting & totally different from what I've been trying to build.

Pretty good analysis on the detachment. I've been playing it for a while, and I agree with most you say. I prefer genestealers over warriors, tho, I feel they're more flexible, and broodlords are great even when the rest of the squad has been wiped. Something I've been trying in my last few games (3 games, vs necrons, ts and votann) is to field 80 hormagants (and 40 gargoyles, all I have) along with the invaders, instead of any monster, and they worked wonders. I haven't seen anyone else trying a mixed vanguard/horde yet, but those gants are giving me greater advantadge on board control, and protecting the invader core from retaliation.

man, some people absolutely adore hormies. All the power to you!

I loved it. A good proper deep dive. Often folks only gets to talking lists, when it is so important how to use models and units on the board, and learn which strategems to prioritize.

I feel like we played a game end of 9th at the Saffron Walden GT? I was playing Guard and it was great fun, though we did time out. I enjoyed the game so much I’ve since started a big old Nids army.

Why not Maleceptors? As a source of durability, kinda hammer and anvil forcing people to choose between trying to kill those and stopping your fast scoring units. Doing a similar job to the Exocrine but moving forward.

Everyone’s different, but for me the 36” range is important. It out ranges a lot of guns that would like to shoot it back. Also points 🎉

You ask what more I could want to hear. I am curious on how to solve some of the issues the difficult missions give Vanguard Onslaught - how would the other strong list you showed off handle those issues? How would you try to handle the games if you were handed the alternative Vanguard Onslaught armies?

sorry just checked back on this video - man thats a big question. I think id need to learn by reps in all honesty. They're also more proactive, so they will try to enforce their gameplans on their oppos whereas i was trying to manage the game to a win. i hope that answers your question.

Thanks for putting this together, and although you accent places you a little further south from me, it is very much the north east. I have played vanguard since the codex came out (I was a Tau player up to that point) and I knew it was for me immediately. Fast forwards a few months and I own a ton of specific invader models. The way I do things is a little off meta, where I have dual winged hive tyrants, as many neurolictors as I can get and plenty of gargoyles, I experimented with venomthropes and the psychophage to keep the gargoyles alive, however I drew to the conclusion that just outright killing the threats to the gargoyles was more effective than making them tankier. I use zoanthropes for anti-tank and haruspex’s for anti infantry / heavy infantry, and I keep the winged tyrants (I get told all the time they are rubbish) for a reactive threat, when you combine the inherent speed with advance and charge and the fact that although they are not a super powerful CC unit they can cause a lot of harm, especially if you can pile both of them into the threat, it’s not uncommon for them to defang some serious units to the point whereby they can be ignored or finished off with the liberally application of neurolictor.

sorry just checked back on this video - love this mate! i think if i went back to VO i'd be trying to build around 4x10 gargs at least. How do you feel about the winged tyrant on UKTC?.... and last thing, if you're English i bet i'm more northern! I'm Carlisle born and interbred.
@ASBOmarc10 ай бұрын
@@YaBoiSwiSSly small world, all of my paternal family is from Carlisle originally, my dads parents were the first to move out of Carlisle, but only got to Newcastle, which is where I am from. I live a little north of the border now, but not by much :). I like all the variants of the tyrants and i think they are all flexible enough to justify, but it’s clear that some work better with some detachments than others. the winged tyrant, is extremely quick in a VO, deceptively so. I deliberately keep them back knowing exactly how far they can get on average rolls, but it seems to pull your opponent into a false sense of security, i then use the lictors to tarpit something tasty and hit it with both tyrants, if it’s battle-shocked and there is a neurolictor (which there normally will be) whatever that particular unit is will generally be somewhere close to combat ineffective next turn. I have an odd but I think sensible approach to target prioritisation as I hit the anti gargoyle units first (again this confuses my opponent as it looks like I made a mistake) then normal target prioritisation, fast threats / amour / melee units, so by the time the gargoyles show up and steal / block the objectives (add turn 1 deep strike to taste) I am generally in an average or better position. As with everything it has better and worse matchups, but it seems to perform adequately against the unfavourable ones; death guard / CSM / Aeldari etc. I am not saying I am correct in how I choose my builds but I do ruthlessly play test them, and my current iteration has performed consistently. I am going to be bringing this VO list to as many UK tournaments as I can get into this year, as that’s the true test. We’ll see what the balance dataslate does, it’s going to require a rework post, but again build / play test / iterate / play test. Oh one final point, my whole army works like a big distraction carnifex, I find that no-one actually wants to shoot at gargoyles, ironically enough, I guess it seems a little wasteful when there are plenty of monsters hanging around, but that’s what I want.

I got smashed by necron hypercript in my first game playing VO, but this great analysis motivates me to try again. Hopefully monolith and c'tann are nerfed before the next game :D because I found myself unable to sratch them. And they have 3" away deployment strat which wrecked me.. any advice? I had a monolith and 10 immortals in my DZ in turn 1.. how do you react to that?
@YaBoiSwiSSly9 ай бұрын
man its a rough match up. Do you take Hunting Grounds? That can make them start to question if they really want to be that aggressive AND battleshocked. Also, VRLs might be something to look at as they can help you screen out, especially if you have neuronode to redeploy depending on the situation. Good luck!
@TheAlmightyPillock10 ай бұрын
I'm not sure what I missed, but I got from this that in deployment you want to deploy far forwards to screen objectives. If you get turn 1 you charge. If you get turn two, then you pul them back (which would be into our deployment zone). But then you are not screening objectives. Is it certain units that you leave out in front and sacrifice and other like Nerolictores you pull back?
@YaBoiSwiSSly10 ай бұрын
i dont like to sacrifice any of the lone ops - theyre so good! It really depends on your oppos threat ranges and where the benefit is. Blocking scout moves, screening other forward deploys etc. is all taken into consideration for me.
@DuelTubeChannel9 ай бұрын
Interesting video, im not a english speaker so i might have lost soe point in the explanation but overall very useful! I think my biggest problem will be (after assembling the army) learning how to master the subtle art of screening. Also, i may not have understand correcty, but what do you mean by "screening not killing"? Charging is.. .wrong?

By my experience having some long fire unit is cool but most map dont have layout with clear line of fire so im not to sure about them
